Season 3, Episode 19: Changing of The Zords, Part 1
"Changing of The Zords, Part 1"
Episode 19
Air Date: October 31st, 1995
Well, the stage has been set for these next couple of episodes starting with this one. I gotta say that one of the best action sequences of the show happens in this one where the rangers jump into the water; preparing for their fight with the Tengas and blasting out of the water moments later. How cool was that scene??? What follows is your typical fight ninja fight scenes with Adam making duplicates of himself and Aisha teleports away and reappears seconds later out of no where to surprise the Tengas. But meanwhile, while all this is going on Finster is off with Squatt and Baboo trying to find ancient dormant zords that he says need to be powered by one of the rangers' power coins as well as one of their zords. This puts Rita and Zedd's plan into motion by having the rangers distracted by the Tengas while their mischievous feline spy, Katherine, is off behind the scenes messing with the rangers by having her mission to steal the coin.
I like how we see Kat's motivations for following Zedd and Rita isn't just a spell but her clear attraction to Tommy and jealousy of Kimberly. It makes sense she would steal Kimberly's power coin above any of the other rangers first; even if she did try to go for Aisha's as well. Though I don't believe the fact that she would let Bulk and Skull stop her as she could have used her powers to knock out those two idiots like she did Tommy. Speaking of that, with Kimberly's power coin in evil hands, her body starts to be drained of its energy; leaving Tommy and Ninjor to handle Goldar and a pack of Tengas at the park again! While the others look after Kimberly, Tommy and fight off Goldar and the Tengas at the park while Kat gives Lord Zedd and Rita the Pink Crane Power Coin. Next, Kat is ordered to steal the Falconzord.
As Goldar grows, Tommy summons his Falconzord and Ninjor grows as well. But after a very cringe worthy line about turning Goldar in anchovies, Kat materializes behind Tommy and knocks him out. She then teleports him out of the Falconzord while Goldar defeats Ninjor. As Ninjor shrinks back to normal size, the Falconezord transform to an actual falcon that arrives on Lord Zedd's arm at the Moon Palace to his excitement. Meawhile, a weakened Tommy tries to help Ninjor as he begins to fade away. After more cheesy posturing from Tommy, we learn with now the power coin, the falconzord and a captured Ninjor as a power source, tthat Lord Zedd and Rita will be able to use their evil set of zords very soon. Meanwhile, back at the Command Center, we learn that the reason Kimberly is becoming so weak is because when Ninjor made the new Power coins, he tied the rangers' life energy to them....ummmmm....hold up isn't that a dangerous concept since if is does get into evil hands, the rangers automatically weaken??? That wasn't a smart move by Ninjor at all! Anyway, Zordon delivers worse news that without the Falconzord, the rest of the zords are out of commission. Once again, don't get that but whatever! Also Zordon lets them know about the dormant zords that Lord Zedd is about to take control of.....as a jealous Kat rips up a picture of Kimberly and Tommy, hoping that she will be finished soon! Overall, a great start to this multiparter with awesome action, a good story and nice plot twists! :)
