Season 3, Episode 14: Final Face-off
"Final Face-Off"
Episode 14
Air Date: October 2nd, 1995
Well, we have an interesting concept in a monster that steals faces that comes with a fascinating backstory ingrained in an intriguing culture. We have cool visual of people's faces getting stolen. We have some nice banter between Zedd and Rita on said monster of the week. Everything seems in order...so how come I didn't like this episode so much??? I don't know??? The Face Stealer is an interesting looking monster in that it is an ancient monster not created by Rita and Zedd but it simply a mythic monster proven to be right by Rita to actually existing when she makes a plan to have the rangers as well as world's faces stolen. I just love the dynamic between these two, especially dealing with their opposing ideals on the Face Stealer. Lord Zedd is of course the skeptic while Rita is the believer. I love how she proves him wrong when she releases the Face Stealer and sends him out to conquer the world by still everyone's faces.
Like I said, I like how the faces of Face Stealer's victims looked after he stole them. Like faces that turn into clay once their attributes were stolen. We also get some more fun ninja fight scenes of course.I also love how the rangers were able to save the day by using the masks that had the legend of warding off the monster's attacks and reversing what it had done to its victims. Though one thing that I don't get is the introduce of the Ninja Ultrazord. Did we really need old footage of Titanus back again as the Ninja Ultrazord looks absolutely cheap. It's just the two toys of each zord put together and it makes for a laughable visual honestly.
Of course, Bulk and Skull have to make idiots of themselves and get involved in the rangers' affairs. I'm glad they got hauled away by security. It's too bad we couldn't get those two permanently sent to jail. It makes no sense at this point that these two bumbling idiots can keep their jobs as Junior Police Officers but than again, we're talking about a show that features multicolored superheroes saving the world on a daily basis with giant robots and have all the time in world to do extracurricular activities as well as homework on top of that. Ehhh! Anyway, overall "Final Face-Off" is pretty much filler. It has some interesting ideas but never lives up to its full potential. It's honestly average at best.
