Season 2, Episode 34: When There's Smoke, There's Fire

"When There's Smoke, There's Fire"
Episode 34
Air Date: November 21, 1994

I know this is the type of episode that would lend itself to hating a character and I'm sure it has but I find this sudden characterization for Aisha to be fascinating. When she gets chosen to be fire safety captain for the week, she becomes overbearing and obsessive of the job; taking way too seriously and must be taught a lesson. When it comes to her duties as a fire safety captain and a Power Ranger, she must learn to keep them separate and not mix the two. For once I'm glad it wasn't a spell that got into one of the rangers and that this is just natural flaw in their characterization. It's definitely a fare cry from having the rangers being the perfect goody two shoes they've been portrayed as. I love the reactions from the other teens by Kimberly being annoyed, Tommy being in disbelief and Billy just analyzing her change in behavior. Not to mention for once, Zordon teaches one of the new rangers a lesson about being a proper ranger as it makes sense that some of new rangers haven't exactly adjusted to being apart of this new team yet.

In monster of the week news, Flamehead was a cool looking monster in design and it was awesome to see a monster that was able to handle rangers adequately. But my goodness, I'm really getting sick of not seeing actual footage of the rangers fighting the monster from away in American footage and the monster fighting them from far away in Sentai footage. I mean this season was the beginning of the American production doing more American morphed fight scenes but man is some of it rough at times. At least the zord battle this episode wasn't battle as we actually see the rangers engaged in a fight with monster in their megazord in Sentai footage.

As for Bulk and Skull, their idiocy never ceases to amaze me!!! Almost setting the classroom on fire and thinking that if they're near a fire that it will attract the attention of the Power Rangers. I swear the writers have no idea what to do with these characters anymore already. I mean come on, what is up with these half minded schemes to reveal the Power Rangers' identities??? I mean I know they are suppose to be the comic relief but they seriously always look so stupid because they simply can't come up with a logical plan to do something as simple of noticing that the voices of Power Rangers are the same as the people they constantly call dweebs!!! Jesus!!! -_- But anyway!!! "When There's Smoke, There's Fire" is a pretty good character focused episode for Aisha as it's a nice lesson for her to learn to work together better with her teammates as well as not get to caught in the responsibilities of a job she takes on outside her ranger duties. Nice! :)

Final Morph: C+
