Season 3, Episode 16: I'm Dreaming of A White Ranger
"I'm Dreaming of A White Ranger"
Episode 16
Air Date: November 23rd, 1995
Yes, Power Rangers had a holiday episode and it wasn't the first!!! O_O Now with these Christmas specials they can either be very heartwarming presentations of the holiday spirit....or they can be cringe inducing half hours that make you want to either change the channel or stop watching it all together. "I'm Dreaming of A White Ranger" is a healthy dose of both, making be want to "awwww" and throw up my breakfast at the same time. Basically during Christmas Eve, Lord Zedd gets the idea to sabotage Christmas by having Rito and some Tengas force Santa and the elves to make Lord Zedd's toys that will put every kid in the world under his spell and worship him. The rangers have to go to the North Pole and stop Rito and his goons from doing so....only they have no powers there because of the mix of the polarity of the North Pole and holiday magic....yes, I'm not kidding, I'm a 30 year old man reviewing a 90s kids show, I don't have time to beat around the bush!!! -_-
So instead of using their powers, the rangers have to come up with another way to stop Rito and the Tenags. Plus when Lord Zedd learns the rangers are there, he sends Goldar to stop them. So the rangers come up with a plan to stop them by using Kimberly and Aisha as decoys first. They get one of Santa's elves to help them by whispering the plan in her ear. As Kimberly and Rito lure Rito outside, Goldar shows up as well. But because of the polarity thing and Christmas who hah, Rito and Goldar can't use their powers either. So the rangers just start throwing snowballs at them, I'm not kidding and they both rush back into Santa's shop to get tripped by the female Elf and slip on some marbles by the other elves. The rangers, elves and Santa tie them up as Alpha sends them teleporting back to the Moon Palace. Lord Zedd and Rita are obviously pissed but at least Santa managed to get them a present, some old toys??? Not a box full of coal??? -_- I mean that would have made more sense. Anyway, the rangers help the elves and Santa finish off getting all the presents together for Christmas.
Oh there's also this sub-plot with this little girl named Becky being sad that her dad isn't there for Christmas to watch her sing in the Christmas Pageant. Turns out he's able to make it and we get a sweet moment of her thanking Bulk in a Santa costume for making her wish come true. Awwwwww!! Then Kimberly and Tommy kiss under the mistletoe and even Kim's mom and her finance are able to surprise her by making it back to home to see her on Christmas. Awww this is all so sweet with terrible children singing "Silent Night". We even get the whole cast and guest stars saying Merry Christmas. Ehhhhhh!!! "I'm Dreaming of a White Ranger" is your typical Power Rangers cheese mixed with holiday lessons and cringe worthy moments but it ain't the worst I've seen from this show so it is bearable for the most part. You can tell the cast had fun with this one just enjoying the holidays and what not, just no more Christmas specials, K? ;)
Final Morph: C+
