Season 6, Episode 2: From Out of Nowhere, Part 2
"From Out of Nowhere, Part 2"
Episode 2
Air Date: February 13th, 1998
Well, this episode doesn't stop for you to take a breath as immediately after a fight scene where the Red Ranger kicks the Quantrons' asses...while T.J. and the others get their asses kicked, we are soon introduced to Andros, the mysterious Red Ranger. Ok, girls keep your lady boners down as even Ashley can't help herself; wondering how he could be human. Of course, Andros tells them that he's from KO-35, a space colony in the Carova system. I love how Cassie makes fun of Ashley for picking on Andros; Ashley making a comment about her thinking he could have been a giant lizard. Hmmm, a giant lizard red ranger....SIGN ME UP!!! :) So while the former Turbo Rangers try to figure out their next move, Andros pretty much tells them Zordon is Dark Specter's prisoner and is draining his powers. Andros is very adamant about working alone even when T.J. and the others try to convince him he needs their help. Andros makes a good point when he says their planetary rangers and know nothing about space. I like Andros as he takes the whole stoic leader stereotype to multidimensional levels. He's mysterious, serious but clearly has a good heart. Nice!!!
While Carlos tries to fix Alpha's voice, D.E.C.A., the ship's artificial intelligence is making smart ass comments about it. Andros finally takes over and gives Alpha a new voice chip!!! I LOVE Alpha 6's new voice and he seems to have completely lost his attitude!!! YAAAYYYY!!! :) As Andros prepares to send the others and Alpha home, Ashley tries to literally give Andros a hand but he relents as the Space Shuttle is ready to take off. Andros has D.E.C.A. lower them down back to the planet as he takes off with the Astro Megaship. As the former rangers head to the shuttle, they realize Alpha is gone and begin looking for him. Turns out Alpha stayed behind to try to convince Andros to have the others join him as they need each other to find Zordon. Andros, once again, is stubborn, saying he works alone. Which makes SOOO much sense given what we'll learn later in the season. But with D.E.C.A backing him up, they manage to finally convince Andros to head back to the planet to get them. As the former rangers battle a new squad of Quantrons, they are captured as Astronema arrives.
God, I LOVE Astronema!!! She just comes in, taunts and demands the rangers to tell her where the red ranger is and just orders her soldiers to kill them; pretty much expressing how useless they are to her. What an awesome villain so far!!! :) But Andros soon arrives with 4 new morphers for former Turbo Rangers as they first morph into the Space Rangers. I LOVE the Space ranger suits as they are a HUGE improvement over the car motif last season. The helmets in particular are very cool and shiny! Neat! :) Anyway, the Andros and the new Space Ranger recruits fight off the remaining Quantrons; even summoning their new weapons: Carlos, now the Black Space Ranger, has a lunar lance, T.J., who is now the Blue Space Ranger, has an Astro Ax while Cassie and Ashley retain their previous ranger colors with new weapons called the Star Slinger and Satellite Stunner respectively. As the Quantrons retreat, the rangers make their way back to the ship as two Velocifighters attack. As they head to the bridge and lift off, Astronema sends another vessel to attack the Megaship. As they blast each other, Alpha starts going on about the black box and the Astron Megazord as the Space Shuttle and Megaship were meant to combine all along as apart of Zordon's plan....ummm...ok then. After an editing mistake of Andros going from morphed to unmorphed, the rangers form the Astro Megazord and I love the simplicity of it as usually megazords are made of 5 components; but now, we just have the shuttle and the megaship yet it still looks damn cool! :)
The Astro Megazord charges at the vessel and destroys it. I love it how Astronema is not phased by it all. Planning to follow the rangers to Earth to destroy them and it. Seriously, LOVE HER!!! I love Andros' reluctance still at all of this. Even after giving them their new Space uniforms, he doesn't exactly trust them yet as they head for Earth. God, I LOVE Andros, so adorable yet strong leader! :) Overall, this two parter was MAJOR improvement over last year's failure to delivery in a new status quo with 'Shift Into Turbo, Part 1-3. I like how there's no real mentor and the rangers have only themselves to figure out how to find and save Zordon. Man, what a superb start to the series!!! :)
