Season 1, Episode 32: A Star Is Born

You know, I'm starting to remember how painfully tedious Season 1 of the show was; it's like the writers felt they had to follow the exact. same. formula. every episode because it what either kids wanted or they really tried working through as much Sentai footage as they could. I mean that can explain why this episode's plot is non-existent and feels like the writers are just trying to fit as much action into the episode as possible. This may be the worst episode of the season for that fact. The episode starts off with Tommy telling Zack and Kimberly about a karate commercial audition their having.  Bulk and Skull come ...sigh...and Bulk thinks he's a shoe in for the commercial. Tommy does his "tough guy/karate routine" for Bulk and he thinks he needs more practice!! You think!! O_o The rest of the rangers are at the beach having fun, as Bulk and Skull arrive; being jerks to the people they hang around too much and Bulk tells Skull to pass the sun screen on him.  Dumb hijinks, dumb hijinks, etc. God, I hate them!!!

Meanwhile, back at the villain's lair, Rita is feeling sick and Goldar decides to take over in the meantime. His plan???.....I have no idea....just he'll destroy the rangers....wow, he's definitely the brawn of the villains and should not be in charge. At least Squatt and Baboo made plans before they attacked the rangers!! Then we head back to Angel Grove High for the audition (To which I don't understand why they are having commercial auditions at a freakin' high school! -_-) Also, what is the timeline of this episode??? How is it Bulk and Skull have time to go to school, go to the beach and go back to school for the audition??? O_o I'm confused. Anyway, Bulk goes to the audition and is, as usual, the dumbest man on the face of the Earth. He thinks he got the part and gloats to Tommy.

Meanwhile, Goldar just has Scorpina and Putties attack the rangers. Gotta love the forced shock from Trini seeing the Sentai footage coming out of no where!!! The rangers morph and fight. Cool fight action aside, what's the point of all this??? Scorpina then uses a small worm monster to trap the rangers into a cocoon to trap them and Goldar has the Putties throw them off a cliff into the ocean to their deaths....which is random...but hey at least he's TRYING to kill them even if his plan sucks! Zordon and Alpha try to contact Tommy to help but he's busy killing the audition.....sigh......wait until this makes no sense!  Finally the rangers in the cocoon decide to use their weapons to blast out of the cocoon cause Goldar didn't think about that did he!! Bad plan!! Then Zordon has Alpha immediately sent to their zords for a zord battle against Scorpina, Goldar and some random baseball monster.  It's like the writers got bored with the plot mid episode and went to new old footage for more action to fill in the time! So the rangers fight with their individual zords until Zordon and Alpha finally get a hold of Tommy and he morphs into action. I swear they use the same footage of the Green Ranger every episode, it's kinda pathetic and sad.

The rangers then form Dragonzord Battle Mode (Seriously, pick a specific name for these different zord formations, Dragonzord Fighting Mode, Dragonzord Battle Mode, Mega Dragonzord, I'm getting confused as which zord formation is which!! Urgghhh!!!) So both the Tyrannosaurs and Battle Mode fight the 3 monsters until Battle Mode destroys the baseball monster. Sooooo then, Zordon has Alpha send the rangers to another location where Scorpina is randomly wrecking havoc...cause....reasons!!! I can;t even begin to figure out how that makes sense. Anyway, they teleport to new old footage and fight Scorpina until that little worm monster she has grows. Sigh. The rangers call on their zords. AGAIN!! and another zord battle commences with just the regular megazord. I don't get why they had to break apart Mega Fighting Battle Mode for this but OK! Then, they get their ass kicked by the worm monster until it traps them once again! Sigh, then the rangers call on Tommy and he frees them with Dragonzord. They then form Mega Dragonzord to defeat it.

Back at the Moon Palace, Rita is pissed because everyone messed up and for the first time I agree!! Back at the Youth Center (I'm assuming a couple days later; probably not!) So Ernie and the rangers are watching the news where the Power Rangers are being praised again (Seriously, can Jason and the other be so obvious looking all flattered! Poker faces guys!!! Use them?!! O_o) So now we see the karate commercial and apparently it's just footage of both Bulk making an idiot of himself and Tommy being Tommy. So there was no actual winning the audition and having to actually film the commercial, just audition and using footage from the audition??? I just.....ehhhhhhh!!!

Worst episode this season!!! There was no plot besides the whole audition and even that in itself was more an excuse to have Tommy do stuff until the Sentai footage required the Green Ranger (as usual) and Bulk being dumb.  Essentially no plot, just action, action, action, action!! (Kinda like that future 20th anniversary season!!! Ehww!!)
