Season 1, Episode 8: I, Eye Guy

I LOVE Eye Guy!!! He's another classic monster from Season 1 cause he's design is excellent! Both creepy and disturbing as we have a monster made completely out of eyes.  Even though the story surrounding his backstory is convoluted (So, Eye Guy was unleashed 10,000 years ago when Rita was free? Sure, but what's with the Asian kid clearly from modern times!?!) O_o Anywho, the episode begins with us being introduced to Billy's little brother aka a character we will never see again after Willy becomes irrelevant to the plot.  Anyway, it turns out he's a little genius like his older brother and has invented a virtual reality. Seriously, why aren't these kids working for NASA!? O_o So after Willy and the teens test it out, they head to the Angel Grove Science Fair where Rita gets the idea to abduct Willy cause he's so smart! ....Ok, why not kidnap Billy?!! The guy who's probably smarter since he made a stupid car that can fly and drive little annoying kids by themselves to the rescue!!? O_o But anyway, as contrived plots go, there have been worse! Also, can't Rita send down more competent foot soldiers than the Putties all the time?! Man, these early Puttie fights are SOOOO lame; bad editing, over dramatic slo-mo shots and poor Billy looks stupid trying to defend his brother when it's been established he can't fight...yet!

After that pathetic attempt at action, the gang and Willy arrive at the fair to which Bulk and Skull also arrive to make fools of themselves. I'm sorry but just 8. EPISODES. IN. I'm already sick of these two, their comedy is SOOO predictable at this point; try to bully the rangers or some random kid, fail at bullying, get humiliated or get their asses handed to them by the main characters they are trying to always bully!! Wouldn't they get the point not to mess with anyone; especially Jason and the others when they can clearly defend themselves and they can't!?! EHHWWWW!!! Skimming through that, one of the judges, for some reason, thinks Willy is responsible for Bulk and Skull's stupidity and is disqualified from the Science Fair aka just like Mr. Caplen overreacting about the food fight being the rangers' fault, we get another pointless over dramatic moment for the sake of drama...JESUS!!

I just want to talk more about Eye Guy and how cool he looks and less about Willy getting taken by him and put into one of those swinging circle things! BUT the rangers coming to the conclusion that Rita is behind his disappearance is....rather smart and moves the plot along given we know she's kidnapped kids before.  Once the rangers teleport to the Command Center, we get Zordon's usual exposition of the threat and why Willy was kidnapped. "It's Moprhin' Time"......you almost got it Jas! I like the Eye Guy fight, his abilities and effects are cool. Also he's a tough foe as even their Power Blasters can't defeat him and he literally just puts himself back together after being destroyed. But Zordon tells Billy destroying his main eye will kill him....sigh....destroy him! Billy goes off into the woods and clearly is protecting someone as the eye attacks him but old Billy is victorious!

The megazord fight comes along when Rita makes him grow and it's a cool fight scene.  Oh and it's the Power Sword NOT the Mighty Sword writers, stop forgetting the stuff you already established! -_- After Willy is freed and saved by the rangers, he heads back to the fair with the teens and for a genius he's pretty dumb as the rangers sound suspiciously like his brother and friends but WHATEVER!! The judge apologizes after him and Ernie test out his invention and he wins 1st prize.....Thanks JERK!!! Sick of these forced apologizes at the end after dumb, forced "drawing to absurd conclusions" characters!! -_- More Bulk and Skull's humiliation??? Pass!!!

Anyway, this was a pretty good episode. Once again we have a terrible, superbly awful child actor in a role that's ultimately pointless in the long run but EYE GUY is cool.  More Bulk and Skull none-sense also makes this less fun for me but cool Sentai action!
