Season 1, Episode 51: Grumble Bee

"Grumble Bee"
Episode 51
Air Date: April 28, 1994

So we have an episode that deals with one of the rangers NOT being so perfect and good at something??? O_o  I am impressed and actually enjoyed this episode A LOT for that reason in particular. So the episode begins with Billy getting a B from Ms. Applebee on a test; which means he can't join the Scientific Club/Event thing or something. The other teens try to ease his pain while Bulk and Skull make terrible B puns to make fun of his failure. Rita, spying on the rangers again, gets idea to create a Bee monster....just keep piling on the puns writers and tells Finster to get started on one. Meanwhile back at Angel Grove High, the teens want to cheer Billy up by playing basketball but he wants to study hard to get an A and make the Scientific Training thing. Trini even offers to help him study while the others head to the park.

Meanwhile, Goldar prepares to lead a squad of Putties against the rangers at the Park. At the Juice Bar, Billy figures out what question he got wrong on the test and Trini is amazed by his brilliance. Turns out...it was a very specific Bee answer. You're kidding?! O_o At the Park, the teens are having fun playing ball while Kmiberly makes a comment about Tommy being at a karate tournament aka he's not in this episode kids!! Awwww!! So they talk about Billy some more and are worried until a sqaud of Putties interrupts their came. One of Ron Wasserman's fight music plays as the rangers decide to use their basketball as a weapon to dispatch the Putties. It's actually entertaining for that reason! So Goldar appears with more Putties as they grab a magic rope and tie the 3 teens up.....and just....leave them there??? O_o You're not gonna try to kil...destroy them or kidnap them at least....JESUS!!! You villains suck!!!

At the Command Center, Zordon and Alpha see the Grumble Bee has been unleashed on Angel Grove but also that Jason, Zack and Kimberly are tied up. They contact Trini and Billy as they teleport to the Command Center. After Zordon tells them what's going on, he wants them go after Grumble Bee despite the other rangers seriously needing help but ok! -_- The two rangers morph with Trini anxiously taking the lead (awesome!) and they arrive to fight Grumble Bee. But it turns out his Bee stingers and sonic waves are two much for them and they retreat for now. Back at the Command Center, Trini and Billy want answers on how to defeat this Grumble Bee but Zordon just tells them Alpha is working on it. He then tells them it's not time to help the others in the meantime. They teleport to the park where they are and they aren't even guarded or discovered by anyone else at the park. Are they like the only ones there today??? O_O Anyway, so Trini and Billy can't free them as Zordon contacts them to stop the Grumble Bee again. They morph back into action (when is that going to be said actually?) and fight the Grumble Bee again. This time he shoots his poisonous venom at Billy weakening him; leaving Trini to put up a fight against him. Meanwhile, Zordon and Alpha finally figure out how to free the other rangers and they morph to help the others.

The 4 rangers take on the Grumblee Bee until its sonic waves immobilizes them. Billy, somehow free from the venom, tells the others it will wear off. Meanwhile, Alpha finishes the weapon that will weaken the Grumble Bee and teleports it to Billy. He sprays the monster and it falls back in pain. The rangers all recover and join Billy to beat the crap out of it. But not so fast, Rita makes him grow and the rangers must summon their zords. After forming the megazord, they fight until they summon the Power Sword and defeat the monster. Back at the Youth Center, Jason and Zack are practicing when Tommy arrives to congratulate the other rangers but was disappointed he wasn't contacted too but Trini says he needs to conserve his energy which is a nice bit of continuity. Billy then arrives to say he got an A+ and can now join the Science Division still don't know what that is. Too lazy to watch this episode again and figure it out! The episode actually ends with the most genuinely funny Bulk and Skull bit with the teens very anxious to help them past their next test or they'll have to tutor them for a while! lol

Overall, this was a good episode with a genuine plot point that showed once again but rarely, the teens aren't perfect and can make mistakes. Grumble Bee was a decent monster and it's always nice seeing the rangers split apart to save the day. And for that, the episode gets a....you guessed it...a B! Can you B-elieve it! -_- lol

Final Morph: B
