Season 7, Episode 36: Beware the Mutiny
"Beware the Mutiny"
Episode 36
Air Date: November 12th, 1999
Like I said, the Lost Galaxy arc starts off well and continues to build momentum with this episode. I like how we see Trakeena and her forces trying to not get sucked into the Lost Galaxy like Terra Venture did. But once in this strange, new oasis of stars and planets, we see Terra Venture starting to get affected by it. Everything is going in reverse, from the clocks to the plants as well as Mike and Commander Stanton finding themselves on a desolate, dirt quarry where a haunting ghost warns them to leave the Lost Galaxy before it's too late. I really love the presentation that the writers put into making this arc seem new and exciting back making the immediate danger of it very frightening. The GSA have no way of leading the colony through this unknown galaxy; leaving them defenseless and essentially trap! Really awesome suspense here!!! :) Of course, it doesn't help on a nearby planet, underneath its sea, is a ginormous castle sitting on top of an even bigger dinosaur called Titanisaur.....even funnier is Mike's description of it when he heads toward Terra Venture. Makes me wonder what actor Russell Lawrence was thinking during that line reading....then again, he looks embarrassed so I guess we do know! lol
On board the vessel is Captain Mutiny, self proclaimed ruler of the Lost Galaxy, added by his general Barbarax and his foot soldiers/crew...uhh...the Swabies.....yeah! O_O Thank God the production decided to use their own original foot soldiers than these Sentai foot soldiers. Like the Craterites from last season, they look cheap and ridiculous as hell. Then again, they aren't the worst looking Sentai foot soldiers ever to be featured on the show....nope....wait until next season!!! lol Anyway, after landing on Terra Venture and being met with hostility from the soldiers of the colony, Commander Stanton, escorted by Mike and Kai, tells them to stand down. Captain Mutiny welcomes them to the Lost Galaxy and tells them they are the first ship to wash ashore this bizarre phenomena of a realm. He tells them he can help them get back home thanks to a machine he has back on his planet. Mike and the rest of the rangers don't trust him as you would expect but with no other options Commander Stanton orders to follow him back and get the machine. The rangers tag along to find out more about Captain Mutiny. After Mike leads some GSA soldiers to get the machine and takes off in a hellship, the rangers sneak around to see what's REALLY up with Captain Mutiny. They discover a field full of enslaved humans who apparently came to the Lost Galaxy and were captured by Mutiny to work in his mine. Wow, this is the first time subject matter like this has been addressed on this show and it's kind of intense; especially when one of the slaves cries out for help when they see the rangers in the distance. After catching the rangers spying on him, Mutiny sends his monster, Rocketron after them.
The rangers morph and battle the Swabies as the hellship gets closer to Terra Venture. While the fighting is cool, it's basically just an excuse to run through unused Sentai footage and save money, but action is good none the less. As the hellship begins to land in Terra Venture, the rangers battle Rocketron as Leo uses the Capsular cycle to destroy him. But he randomly grows (Oh they do that in this galaxy too??) and the rangers call on their zords to form the Galaxy Megazord. As Rocketron prepares to sacrifice himself and the megazord, the rangers call on Stratoforce Megazord to help as they join forces to destroy him. But as the rangers head back to Terra Venture to stop trap set by Captain Mutiny, Rocketron is still alive....as well as Deviot, who appears to drain what's left of his energy to return to his normal form. As the rangers reach Terra Venture, the soldiers begin to open the large crate holding what's inside as the rangers try to stop them. But it's too late as a giant worm like monstrosity comes out to blast the rangers and borrows into the ground to escape. All and All, once again, a strong arc episode that really sets up this really intimidating new situation the rangers and the colony on stuck in.
