Season 4, Episode 9: Bound

"Bound"
Episode 9
Air Date: November 17th, 2004

Zzzzzzzzzzz......oh! O_O So this episode.....big ole snoozefest! Surprisingly, you'd think an episode centered around Lex's ever growing dark side would be exciting, suspenseful, even a bit entertaining but Bound slowly and painfully takes all the potential fun out of it.  It's your basic (I do mean basic) scorned lover murder mystery as Lex finds himself next to the body of a dead woman he slept with the night previously.  Of course, he's being set up as Lex hasn't gotten that far in his journey to complete evilness so its all about following these rudimentary plot tropes as Clark and Chloe help try to prove Lex's innocence by investigating.  Outside of that hilarious elevator scene and the fact that Clark has telescope vision on top of his X-Ray vision now, there's nothing really interesting for them to do here.  There have been far better murder mystery episodes like "Suspect" from Season 2 or even "Relic" from last season, but Bound just fumbles toward the end of the episode which feels overlong and drawn.  Not to mention, Lex being a womanizing playboy with a history of heartless hookups with random women is hardly a shock and I'm kind of upset that the writers chose to use this as a way of saying Lex is far more messed up behind closed doors already.  So what??? I'm not saying being a womanizing jerk who sends earrings to a girl after you have sex with her and dump her is right, I'm just saying is it really necessary as a catalyst of him being more of a villain than friend at this point??? O_o

Jesus, even Lionel, who returns in this episode mentions Lex likes to go after women who remind him of his mother (Don't they all! :P), why not use that as a way to empathize with Lex on how he keeps trying to find love in meaningless sex with women because of the love he lost so long ago with his mother.  Lex just comes off heartless here and the fact he was burning evidence didn't help his cause.  Yeah, I know Eve Andrews was a stalker and that would have given the cops more proof he's guilty but I just couldn't careless.  Even the revelation of the true murder and the fact that it was two women he was with doesn't change things.  Shannon is just your average psycho wanting revenge after being dumped.  Apparently she left her fiance for Lex before he dump her with the earrings but Lex didn't exactly know that right??? She's blaming him for her sick infatuation that ended her engagement and forced her to be all lonely.  Waaahhhhhh!!! -_-  I guess that last minute save from Clark with him using his jacket to put out the fire while in superspeed mode looked pretty cool, we've seen better at this point and doesn't exactly make up for the waste of time until that point in the story.

Also in this episode, we are introduced to Jason's mother, Genevieve Teague, played by the Medicine woman herself, Jane Seymour! :)  She does well in the role but why does she have to be apart of that dumb witch storyline with Lana??!! Seems the Teagues might have some strong connection to Isobel as Lana has some random nightmare about Genevieve being at Isobel's burning....ok! O_o Also, it's implied that Jason meeting Lana was some type of set up by his mother or something but I just don't care.  This witch crap makes no sense in this context and is putting focus on Lana that is unnecessary.  This was the beginning of her being faarrrr more than she needed to be on this show. O_0 Sigh.... Bound is just forgettable and aggravating to watch that tries to make Lex seem darker but it only bores while progressing a storyline that was dead on arrival. Oh last episode, Spell. This episode, Bound. I guess that makes sense since they both sucked! O_o
