Season 19, Episode 8: Kevin's Choice

"Kevin's Choice"
Episode 8
Air Date: April 7th, 2012

I just don't understand what's the point of these character focus episodes when they don't really build on character or even give us insight on the rangers on what they've been going through since the beginning of their ranger journey.  I'm sorry, since Kevin left his swimming career behind, he has barely mentioned it and now we're suppose to believe now that his former team is in town, that he all these reservations about leaving???  If anything, Kevin has been all about the Samurai life.  Literally eating, sleeping and breathing his calling.  Sure, it may have been initially hard for him but he comes off so disciplined and dedicated to his Samurai calling that his previous life almost seemed like an inconvenience to how important being a ranger is.  Honestly, this beyond horrible writing and retroactively tries to make Kevin's swimming mean waaayyy more to him than we originally.  This is why this era of the so is so laughable and trite! It tries to force all these emotions on use when there has been barely or no focus on the characters besides the most basic of character traits, now all of sudden the writers want to give them more fleshed out backgrounds when they serve no purpose.  Kevin doesn't change or grow from this episode so what is the damn point??? -_-

Also, the dilemma at hand with his Samuraizer getting eaten by new Nighlok on the scene....Skarf.......O_o is just plain ridiculous and is hardly made to be much of an issue.  It doesn't even tie into the main plot with Kevin and letting his team down.  Like the writers saw the footage and decided lets embellish on the whole swimming career thing with Kevin.  Not to mention, Kevin or his dad didn't even mention why Kevin suddenly left??? O_O  Are you kidding me??? They could have made up an excuse instead of telling the truth so his team wouldn't suddenly resent him because he dropped everything one day and never explained why.  It's all so dumb and could have been avoided.  Kevin could have even made up an excuse when his team questioned him leaving....!!! I just....!!!! AHHHHHH!!! -_- But at least Kevin's team issues aren't the only thing on display this episode.  Serrator approaches Dayu when she finds a piece of Dekker's sword and so casually tells her he's alive, since he would never chose such a weak candidate to be his chosen warrior.  Nice to see Serrator having his own machinations by recruiting Dayu and Dekker but still, his return is handled to poorly as with almost everything on display from this season.

So because his sword was broken, he lives and won't be broken from the curse until it's fixed?!??? What the hell is going on with this show!??? *Head concrete* *Head wall* *Head iron* Anyway, the rangers are all shocked by his return and for some reason he and Dayu destroy Skarf to make him stronger than just.....fly off.....ok! Oh and this episode introduces the Samurai Gigazord which is basically the Ultrazord configuration of all the zords combined.  Jesus and I thought the RPM megazords were clunky af! O_O  Anyway, Kevin's Choice tries to explore the repercussions of leaving his swimming team but it is such a contrived and short sighted story that feels more underwhelming and not needed.  Might as well get back to the story.....even if there isn't much of one as usual. -_-
