Season 4, Episode 14: Krypto

"Krypto"
Episode 14
Air Date: February 16th, 2005

Well, you have one half of this episode that is really cute and heartwarming...but then you have the other half that is just so boring and patronizing.  But as usual, I'm gonna start with what I enjoy which is our little good boy here aka soon to be named Shelby by the end of the episode.  Such a cute dog and you can tell the cast is so excited to have the darling dog on set, especially Tom.  Boy does he naturally just lights up around the dog and I love the relationship they build as Clark finds out that his new mysterious friend is an animal that has been experimented on by Luthorcorp (cause of course, when isn't it Luthorcorp!?).  Tho I found the story with the two brothers using both dogs to steal from safes and trucks carrying cash to be utterly snooze worthy as we've seen this type of storyline before but I guess the addition of the super dogs was suppose to spice it up?!!! I do enjoy that the writers don't exactly make Krypto a story of a kryptonian dog arriving on Earth and Clark being his owner but rather the writers take the concept of both Krypto and the Kent family dog from the comics to combine them to make this cute little story reminiscent of a Lassie...but with kryptonite of course.  Not to mention, the addition of Shelby brings some hilarious moments between Clark and Lois that has been seriously overdue since Devoted.

Between Clark taking pleasure in Lois being allergic to the dogs and Lois constantly calling the dog "Clarke" was priceless.  But seriously, I wish the writers would give Lois more interesting things to do outside of being a comic relief character who occasionally is yet another damsel in distress for Clark.  I mean it's just Erica Durance is such a strong actress with great chemistry with Tom that should be further explored as well as her own storyline on the show but whatever, the time we do get to see her onscreen, she makes the best of it honestly so I'll take what I can get.  Also, I thought the last minute save between Shelby and Clark saving each other was too cute. Seriously, I can watch Tom and that dog all day, especially the final scene where they are both playing with each other.  Not to mention, I love Clark advocating so much for Shelby and not wanting the dog to pay for being mistreated by its owners.  Also, seeing Clark not having to hide his powers from the family's new guest was just too hilarious. Can you see that I'm seriously stalling cause I don't want to talk about the other half of this episode??!! -_-  Ehhhhwwwwww.......

Sigh....so we're back to Lex, Jason and Ms. Teague double crossing each other and numerous boring scenes of them talking about their connection to Isobel and how they shouldn't trust the other.  Excuse while I check out! Also, there was a huge misstep in one of the scenes in terms of dialogue where Genevieve refers to her and Jason as the ancestors of the Gertrude, who was the one who had Isobel condemned to be burnt into stake.  WOW...should we care???? I know I don't! I'm ready for this for this dreaded witch catastrophe of a story to be over because I am continuous feeling so uncomfortable that something so stupid is being taken so freakin' seriously.  Now Lana is having Chloe research Jason because she doesn't trust him and now learns that Jason's ancestors...since he's Gertrude's descendant (Like WOW! Still believe that made it to final cut of the episode! O_O)  are from the same village that her ancestors are from aka Isobel Thoreaux! WOW...again...who the hell cares!!! Ewwwww!!! -_-  Outside of some really hilarious interactions between Clark and Lois as well as the undeniably cute Shelby at hand, Krypto is a heartwarming little adventure but the reminder of the stupid witch arc and the interchanging alliances between the Luthors and Teagues just gets too grating as it gets drawn out for no reason.
