Season 4, Episode 8: Spell

"Spell"
Episode 8
Air Date: November 10th, 2004

.........so here we are! The part of this season where the show feels like the showrunners began losing their damn minds by creating such an outlandishly laughable storyline centered around Lana and her mysterious tattoo aka Kryptonian tramp stamp! -_-  So....uhhhh...let me just dive right into this incredibly unintentionally hilarious hour of the show that truly is one of the worst things I have ever witnessed from some of my all time favorite shows from adolescence until my young adulthood. Where do I begin??? So Lana found out a few episodes ago that she is actually related to Countess Margaret Isobel Thoreaux who turns out to have been an accused witch who was burnt into stack in the 1600s.  Yeah, Lana is related to a 17th century witch but it gets worse when she acquires her spell book and gets possessed by Isobel herself in the present day.  Yeah, that flashback of Isobel and her fellow witches getting burnt into stake??? Ummmmm, I guess Al and Miles didn't care at all whether Kristin could pull off such a drastic character from norm as her performance as Isobel.....WOW......omg, I'm crying.......hahahahaha! Oh Kristin she must have known she didn't have the range for this as she puts her all in it but my god, it feels like a parody of a theater production of Wicked! I'm so serious, that over the stop cackling and aggressive looks that look more Halloween cosplay than an authentically scary witch....I just.....how did the WB air this and not at least discuss how this looks like Smallville terribly capitalizing on Charmed's popularity!!??!?! O_O

Yes, it's not only Kristin who's forced into this wiccan garbage of a storyline but Chloe and a returning Lois.  Why did they make poor Erica Durance return for this after Lois' great portrayal in her initial episodes this season??? O_O  Even Allison Mack who has an unbelievable range just feels miscast and so unnatural as Madelyn, one of Isobel's fellow witches. The poor actresses, I feel so bad for them making a fool out of themselves in this crap.  They don't even come off as witches! Outside of the magic, they are mostly a bunch of mean, stuck up horny teen girls masquerading slutty witches for Halloween. My god! That barn sequence with the surprise party for Chloe....*Head....then desk* *Head...THEN DESK* I can't fathom how the writers thought this scene would be anything but awkward and embarrassing for all that are involved.  I just don't understand what Al and Miles were thinking......on second thought, I think I definitely know what they were thinking.  Oh it is becoming abundantly clear where their heads are at now in the show.....all I say is....it makes sense!!! Bunch of hot witches led by Lana being so freely sexually aggressive, dismissive of men who are in their way and turning Clark in some farm boy fetish scene after they take his powers away.....yeah, these guys were perverts! O_O

Yeah and I guess I'll talk about the 3 stones and how Isobel is apart of that bigger storyline throughout this season but I can't possibly find any care in the world to talk about why the hell brought witches into the main storyline this season instead of just a stupid one off but I guess our obvious showrunners wanted Lana to continue being a sexy witch all season??? The resolution is dumb as Clark just gets his powers back from one of the stones and destroys Isobel's book with his heat vision.  Rather easy considering how apparently powerful they are! Oh and of course, all's forgiven when the three are back to normal because who wants to give them a hard time??? They were possessed by witches and out of their own control unlike Clark when he acts so out of character all of a sudden, he must have serious issues and can't talk to him for a while the jerk! Mehhhhh!!! At least Lex finally tells Lana it was he who got Jason fired and Lana apologizes to Clark for making that mistake. Looking back, I see the set up here with Lex and how his relationship with Lana develops and it's extremely uncomfortable when she's suppose to be 17 going on 18 and he's like at least 24 at this point in the show right??? I mean she's dating Jason so its a crime anyway but no one thought to bring this up and how much a bad message it is a high school girl to date a college junior or senior???  Not to mention, have her older billionaire friend may or may not have interest in a minor??? O_o  Smdh....I mean it makes sense for witches to exist in the Smallville universe as we get the reveal of magic being another one of Clark's weaknesses, but other than that.....  Spell is the worst episode of the series at this point and highlights one of the several things this season that will severely hinder its potential from being great...maybe even good.  Ewwww all that terrible Latin delivery during those witch encounters, YIKES!!! So annoying! O_O
