Season 19, Episode 10: The Strange Case of the Munchies

"The Strange Case of the Munchies"
Episode 10
Air Date: April 21st, 2012

.......ummmmm...ok!?? O_O  Lol On one hand, seeing Emily having a personality dilemma again, this time, with not being tough enough is made to be this over the top joke that NEVER really lands for me.  Mostly because, Emily as a character isn't really interesting. O_O  None of the rangers are outside Mike have personalities that make them relatable because they have never been developed well over 1 and half seasons so far.  Yes, one could say she's been too nice but then again she's a SAMURAI who has helped the rangers tremendously kick a$$ the past almost 2 years so I don't understand this kind of plot point that's being revealed to us.  It kind of reminds of Jungle Fury's "Bad to the Bone" where they thought Lily was so dependable and nice enough for all of them. But at least Lily had a clear personality and arc to her character despite be not exactly loving that episode. Emily has shown to be resourceful and able to more than handle herself in battle like last season with "Sticks & Stones".  I mean the sequences with her...sigh training Bulk and Spike are just unnecessary and make absolutely no sense.  So they can't get rid of them so they decide to drill the hell out of them until they want to leave??? Pssssh! More comedic relief that is empty and only there because we gotta have a comedic duo, especially during this era of the show! Sheesh! -_-

But on the other, watching the cast act bananas (no pun intended) over food and eating everything in sight has this hilarious stoner metaphor to it that is so entertaining to watch.  All the food they consume while Mentor Ji tries to stop them, even control them from eating everything in sight really got some genuine laughs out of me I must admit. It is definitely something new for the show and the writers, crew, especially the cast do a nice enough job to make it enjoyable.  You can tell they were having a blast on set and could barely keep themselves from laughing. HAHAHA! :) I think the closest thing we've ever got to this episode is "Rita's Pita" from Season 3 but that was just sillier meddling from Rita herself than slapstick fest like this watching the rangers and citizens of....city -_-....eating any food they can get their hands on. lol  But outside of that, the episode follows the normal route of final confrontation, especially when it comes to a single ranger using the Super Samurai mode to defeat the monster; this time Grinataur as Emily single-handedly defeats him and brings everyone back to normal.  Awwwww, I want more scenes of Mentor Ji trying to tame the rangers with salad! Hahahaha!

Soon the rest of the team arrives and the rangers call on all the zords to form the Samurai Gigazord which they use to destroy Grinataur once and for all. Funny how the episode ends with the rest of the rangers not knowing what really happened.  Does make for a genuinely clueless ending that is hilarious as well.  The Strange Case of the Munchies doesn't take itself too seriously outside of trying to make use believe that Emily is something she isn't and needs character development that doesn't even end up sticking as usual so what is the point??? O_o Just put your brain aside before you start the episode and it becomes a fun little ride of hilarity. :)
