Season 19, Episode 4: Something Fishy

"Something Fishy"
Episode 4
Air Date: March 10th, 2012

How can an episode be simultaneously awesome yet completely embarrassing??? Well be an episode of Super Samurai of course!!! Ewwww let me just get down to what I enjoyed about the episode.  At least the writers decided to take the route I had hoped with Antonio dealing with some serious trauma after getting almost eaten by a cat when he was trapped inside a fish.  Then there's the fact that we are introduced to a new villain who is beyond badass.  I have always loved Serrator; both in design and the epic voice acting they had for him.  Seriously, Derek Judge just delivers his lines with this deep, insidious edge that is needed for a new threat for the rangers.  Not to mention, his literal unflinching devotion to Master Xandred when he hits him with an attack....WOW!!! O_O  But isn't it sad that this guy has been onscreen for barely a 5 minutes and he is already a better villain than Xandred has been the past 2 seasons so far??!! -_-  Not a good look for your main villain at all!I just love how he confronts the rangers and easily kicks their asses with no effort what so ever.  The action was superb, but mostly because it is all Sentai footage.  Despite that tho, Serrator still makes a great first impression as a new big bad should, especially being able to create giant fighting warriors for him to combat the rangers while fighting them. Yeah, that Papyrox monster is an impressive design and even more impressive threat that was a pleasure to watch kick Jayden's a$$ in the megazord.

But alas, the writers take up the rest of the episode to once again prove how insulting and dumb the writing for this show is. Not only do they treat Antonio's trauma/new phobia like a running gag throughout the episode, the writers make themselves look like even bigger imbeciles by taking aversion therapy and getting it completely wrong! That is NOT aversion therapy and after looking up its true definition....ARE YOU KIDDING??!! O_O It's exposure therapy and my goodness, if the children at the time learned from this and told people about it!?? *Headdesk* It's one thing to dumb down a show because it's marketed toward kids but my god, this is just awful and insulting to even their intelligence.  Now wonder Jonathan Tzachor would soon to be fired.  How did this even make is passed the executes at Nickelodeon??? They really don't care about this show and the minimalist effort being put in is so embarrassing evident. O_o  Oh and Mentor Ji just cures Antonio by shoving a sushi in his mouth! Makes it easy! Problem solved!!! I.....WHAT!!!? -_-

Oh and let's not forget about the random introduction of the Light zord.  Suddenly, Mentor Ji brings this thing out to help Antonio face his fear...but why wait until this moment to reveal this zord when the rangers could have used it already!??? -_- Antonio's symbol power is Light, so only he can activate it...even tho it hasn't been activated in so long by other Samurai rangers??!  I just.....this show is awful, awful, awful! My god! Hated seeing Antonio coming into battle and owning Serrator.  A threat to be taken so seriously is now undermined by the deus ex machina and Antonio of all people made to look like a badass when this makes no sense! Ehhhhhh, Light megazord! Whatever! Like I said, save from the good of the this episode, the rest is the reason this new era is such a hard pass for the majority...if not ALL the fandom of the franchise.  EHwww! -_-
