Season 14, Episode 29: Light Source, Part 2

"Light Source, Part 2"
Episode 29
Air Episode: October 10th, 2006

Well, I suppose this was a waaayyy more progressive episode that Part 1. Seeing Leelee, Clare and Phineas working together to save Udonna had a certain charm to it that I didn't expect.  I mean it's the most useful and effective use of all three characters, especially Leelee, even if I still find her abrupt change of heart terrible writing.  It was actually really entertaining seeing them team up against the Styxoids (Keep forgetting there are a second faction of foot soldiers! O_O), especially when Phineas out of nowhere kicks some serious a$$ to save the three when they get discovered.  Also, the chemistry and banter between them wasn't bad even if Leelee and Phineas's sudden attraction to each other is random as hell and....ewwwww!! O_o  Luckily, Leelee manages to do something good for once finally by snagging Udonna's Snow staff back which will allow them to break the spell that is holding her but before that let's get into the rangers and their dilemma this episode as they chased after Udonna through that portal to end up fighting Hekatoid again.

Unfortunately, the Toad Terror manages to steal Udonna back from them as well as steal their powers so they are unable to save her.  I have to say tho, the next scene that follows is extremely jarring as Nick all of a sudden wants to quit because he blames himself for losing his parents like this.  Uhh huh....  I get it though, Nick has always been a loner and has struggled to find his parents and when he finally meets them, they are taken away for him so viciously which would make anyone feel completely defeated as well as traumatized.  But I don't think Xander should have been the archer to make Nick realize she how much he shouldn't give up and that the rangers are his family too.  Why??? Well, let's see, Xander is only the most despicable members of the team....actually, probably the most selfish and self centered ranger of all time so far!!! O_O  Oh his sob story of moving to the states and being bullied; feeling alone...GIVE ME A BREAK!!! -_-  Is that the reason why you've been treating your "family" like sh!t for taking credit for everything they do despite doing nothing and worrying about your looks.  I t would have been the perfect time to finally explain why Xander has absolutely no redeeming qualities but it's just another writing moment this season that's more head scratching than thought provoking.  Ewwwwww!!! Anyway, Tobey's been working out rigorously when the rangers reunite at the Rock Porium.  For some reason, they feel this is the right time to tell Tobey there's rangers and I love how he laughs it off since they used that one of him before in an earlier episode of course.  I mean I'm glad the rangers finally took some responsibility for constantly leaving work so much to save the day but Tobey inadvertently telling them how to get their powers back was....kinda pathetic. O_O Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Tobey has been a useful supporting character so far but this is the second time the rangers needed him to find a way to save the day/  Makes it seem like our heroes can't think for themselves without their eccentric, painfully goofy, over the top boss having lending a hand without his knowledge.

Anyway, while Daggeron continues to try to destroy all those...poisonous tadpoles....I just!!! 0_o  Hekatoid arrives to stop him; leading to a ground fight where the rangers use Tobey advice to tire out Hekatoid so they can kick the thing holding their powers out of his hand to get their powers back.  I think I liked in better in Wild Force cause at least the team came up with it themselves. Anyway, even with their powers back, it's raining deadly tadpoles but thanks to the arrival and return of the White Mystic Ranger, the rangers are able to gleefully reunite with Udonna and morph to fight alongside to defeat Hekatoid once and for all.  The 6 rangers combine their powers and he's defeated...only for Tobey to see and realize that his employees really are in fact the Power Rangers! O_O Meanwhile, the three Terrors have finally defeated Leanbow and steal the Master back from him....somehow O_o....and trap him in an abyss where he is literally clinging for his life.  The episode concludes with the rangers finally accepting Leelee as an ally but Udonna steal adamant about finding her husband. All and All, this was random two parter that yes, move the main story forward but doesn't really make much sense.  What exactly is the "Light Source"??? Am I missing something here?? Otherwise, a pretty great episode for this season despite things no exactly being that great if that makes any sense.

Final Morph: B+
