Season 14, Episode 16: Soul Specter

"Soul Specter"
Episode 16
Air Date: June 12th, 2006(Jetix TV)/Jume 19th, 2006 (TV)

So I'm trying to understand what type of episode this was because it feels like it wants to be centered around Chip but seems more like you're run of the mill episode that has a very pressing dilemma but doesn't really move the plot along.  I guess it was great to see Chip's  determination to save the day; feeling he's responsible when a father and his daughter's life forces get taken by the monsters of the week, Gnatu and Spydex.  We see Chip has grown in his ranger duties and takes them very seriously despite not being responsible when people aren't able to be saved at the moment.  I wish the episode went more with that angle; kinda like In Space's "Always A Chance" but Chip learning apart of being a hero is knowing when your actions did cause someone to be hurt instead of taking the blame for something he had no control of.  Cause honestly, I would have preferred that WAAYYY more than the whole Soul Specter crisis that befalls Chip.  The irony is, Chip's soul being consumed by a trap by Necroli WAS actually Chip's fault since he had no idea what was in the bottle and just randomly opened when Madison told him not to; knowing full well it probably is a trap!!! O_O Is Necroli catching on now how these rangers are completely inept??? O_o  Also, Koragg out of no where AGAIN, turning Morticon's sword into his new sword...WOOOOOHH!!! o_O Of course, Mr. Honorable BS wants to challenge the Solaris Knight and fights him in Twilight dimension that all purple and stuff.  Once again, Koragg could just destroy him there after beating him but just walks away......-_-.....  I don't care where this arc is going with him, kill Koragg!!! Just right him off, please!!! Even Imperious mentions why he keeps letting the rangers live after he defeats them and does his own BULL about serving only the Master! Oh shut up you Mystic Knight reject!!! -_- *HEAD TO WALL*

Anyway, with Chip being all sick his soul being literally sucked away, Udonna tells him and the rest of the rangers the only thing that can save him is some magical staff on top of some dangerous mountain that they must climb ASAP as Chip doesn't have much time.  Ummmm, so you guess can't cast a spell to teleport or fly there with those magic brooms that turn into those Mystic Racer thingys??? O_O  Ok, let's just unnecessarily extended this extremely dangerous mission where they could seriously die before they reach the top??!!! Ewwwwww!!! -_- Oh and all of sudden, Daggeron suggests that if Chip survives that he'll train him how to be a knight like him.  Dude's already a Power Ranger and a wizard, now he needs to be a knight??? O_o  Also, what is with the awkward choice of music during these heart to heart scenes on this show???  Talk about jarring tonal clash!!! O_O Of course at the top, Koragg happens to be waiting for them, leading to yet another fight between them so Solaris Knight can get the staff back.  The fight is actually pretty awesome on the ground and between their megazords.  While Koragg gives him his toughest fight yet, Daggeron manages to beat him; leading Koragg to leave as he is too worthy of an opponent, oh my gawd, ANYWAY!!! Daggeron gets the staff back and cures Chip in time as he can't wait to be a Knight, yay! WOW! -_-

Meanwhile, the rest of the rangers have been battling the two monsters and have gotten their asses kicked for the most in the process.  Luckily, Chip and Daggeron return in time to help the rangers destroy Spydex and free all the life forces so they can return back to the humans of the city that lost them.  With Gnatu left, she grows by a spell and the rangers summon their Titan Megazord to perform their Ancient Titans power strike to destroy her for good.  As the episode ends, Daggeron tells Chip of Udonna's husband named "Leanbow" who apparently was lost when the Gates to the Underworld was lost....yeah, but who cares, let's get back to Knight training!!! :)....*Headdesk*  Outside that sequence of the rangers climbing a web and those ridiculous mustic muscles come back, "Soul Specter" isn't outright trash but it's mediocre at best for me because it's so disappointing how a Chip centered episode started off so strong then went into such a weak direction with almost no character development at all.  I mean besides learning about Leanbow (Even tho I think he was mentioned in the last few episodes??? O_o) , what did you really miss here? o_o
