Season 14, Episode 10: Petrified Xander
"Petrified Xander"
Episode 10
Air Episode: April 24th, 2006
........Honestly, I don't care at this point as these reviews are turning more into rants again than actual critiques but I don't mind at all when the characters aka our heroes are such morons that I'm surprised they were destined to be power rangers instead of afterschool janitors (No offense to them comparing them to Xander of all in this episode) I officially believe all the rangers, maybe except for Chip (I know! Ironically! O_O) are brain dead teens with no common sense what so ever. Xander gets big pimple on his nose and suddenly uses one of Claire's new potions because apparently he is so self-involved that he MUST look perfect all the time. Sigh...so Xander is so adamant of being the most attractive guy that he'd desperately use a potion made by Claire, who he knows makes mistakes when using her magic!!!??? O_O I understand, these characters need development and shown how they are progressing as not only rangers but as people outside of saving the world every week....BUT....come on, at one point when Xander and Vida track down the Fire Heart, Xander decides to open door 2 and unleashes a monster they have to fight jusy cause he wanted to see what's behind it! Are these teens or 5 year olds??? O_O Because I thought the show was about teen superheroes with a kid audience, not the other way around! -_-
Honestly, I'm not made at all that the rangers spent most of the day making fun of Xander when he was transforming into a tree. I'm sorry but Xander has been shown to take advantage of his friends at work, make terrible assumptions about people without getting all the facts, thinks he is such a natural born leader that he can find his way through a dangerous magical forest and NOW he thinks randomly putting potions on him will solve all he's problems...and it's not even the halfway point of the season yet. O_o These aren't jsut character flaws, these selfish, borderline disturbing behavior from someone who has a group of friends who stand by him despite how horrible of a person he is. How is he even destined to be a ranger when she so obnoxious and conceited!!!?? -_- Every ranger has to go through their own personal journey every season, I get that, but when one of the rangers starts off THIS bad and stupid, how are we even suppose to root for him to mature and evolve??? O_O And once again, a ranger is reward a new spell code...for. no. reason! he doesn't even get it for the lesson he learned, he just gets it because he's about to be defeated by the monster of the day and bam, get out of jail free card again! It's that easy! And they...turn out to be....magical boxing gloves. Magical boxing gloves that each of the rangers can use now during battle....WOW....wow....wooooowwww. o_o
So I'm having a migraine right now but I'm gonna push through this review til the end.... :) So the villains and rangers are after the Fire Heart, which the rangers discover is in a chest that they must open by figuring out the puzzle to unlock in 1 hour. Naturally, we can't see the rangers trying to figure this out because they're brainless as usual and need their boss, Tobey to do it for them. He does and they quickly take the Fire Heart back to Root Core where they discover...a huge red egg in the chest...the last dragon egg as Udonna proclaims to everyone before the episode wraps. Yeah, this was awful, only saved by the fact that Vida's bonding moment with Xander was once again, the only genuinely decent scene in the episode. Why not more of that instead of magical boxing glove and nonsensical character motivations??? Beats me! O_o
