Season 14, Episode 26: Hard Heads
"Hard Heads"
Episode 26
Air Date: September 18th, 2006
Meh!!! I guess this episode was decent enough since the focus was off the whole "Nick is the greatest wizard/The Light" non-sense and feels more like your typical episode of Power Rangers at the heart of it. I mean the dilemma at hand this episode is pretty much a staple of the show at this point. Two rangers are suddenly bickering or at odds for a episode aka in this case, Nick and Vida when Nick takes her spot at work where she controls the turn tables and does her DJ thing. I mean honestly, the DJ stuff with Vida has only been an extremely minor character trait that has been pointed out once or twice, but has never been a major priority for her. I mean just look at Kira in Dino Thunder who was all about her music career and made many strides to pursue that career as well as we always saw her practicing in almost every episode. Vida's DJing doesn't seem like enough of a passion of hers for her to react that way towards Nick's sudden interest in wanting to use that area but whatever, the point of the episode is for them to learn how to work together despite their differences. Like the first season's "Gung Ho" when Tommy and Jason had to learn how to work together but NOT nearly as good or action packed. I guess I enjoyed the main storyline for the most part but it's nothing new or original as well as you already know where's it's going. Despite that, I did enjoy the moment Vida took the time to learn more about Nick and while he was suddenly interested in DJing as it felt very realistic even if the quota of the episode had them at odds again for comedy despite resolving the issue.
On the villain side of things, The Terrors continue to be pretty bland even with the continued infighting between them. Honestly tho, it's not really infighting to between with as only Megahorn and Serpentina have been the only ones to rebel and go against the rules of darkness which is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Evil had standards and rules now???!! I thought evil was suppose to be the exact opposite. It's not even being morally gray like Villimax's great sense of loyalty and chivalry during Lost Galaxy showing a variation of evil. It's a bunch of over-sized and overpowered beings who can literally take over the world with ease but limiting themselves by getting beaten by the enemies almost embarrassingly at this point. Why is it that those two have the common sense to just be gleefully evil instead of waiting to cause chaos and destruction??? I'm sure this whole stone selection made more sense in the context of Magiranger, it's just vague diplomatic non-sense that severely limits these villains as a threat. I guess some of the other Terrors like Itassis have interesting characteristics that differentiate themselves from the others but the rest of so generic and bland. Sculpin, who appears to be the leader of them but not really said, tries to see who might be suddenly blocking the Master from rising (Yeah, how???) at some mystical lake when he performs a spell that makes the spirit of Leanbow appear as Koragg. He admits he is the source of the blocking and won't let anyone raise the Master as long as he is protecting his possible ascension. So...yeahhhh....O_O
As for Serpentina and her plan, it actually wasn't paid if not overly elaborate to make Hekitoid spray Vida and Nick with his slime so they can't morph when he could have done that to the others too??? O_o The snake theme tho was creepy as hell tho, especially the sight of so many slithering through the city in thousands if not millions. Also, the sight of Serpentina eating the rangers was just disturbing; especially poor Chip trying to fight her own in a pool of water but gets ultimately swallowed whole. What is it with Sentai and the monsters eating the rangers like that??! (Terror Toad flashbacks!!! Yikes! 0_0 Of Itassis gets word of Serpentina trying to stop her fate of being defeated by the rangers as the Book of Prophecy states and gives the rangers back their powers...so they can defeat her and get their friends back??!!! Are you kidding me??? She was about to win and you stopped her??!! -_- EHHHHHAAAHHHH!!! Anyway, Nick uses his Red Dragon Ranger BS to destroy her and free the others but she then grows as the rangers use the Solar Streak Megazord and Manticore Megazord to defeat her for good. Meh! Bit a bad episode, just things about how this show's main storyline is being written as well as the characters' motivations and choices seem so dense and dumb. Got about 6-7 episodes left so I'm staying until the bitter (or possibly better?) end! :)
