Season 22, Halloween Special: Ghostest With the Mostest
"Ghostest With the Mostest"
Halloween Special
Air Date: October 17th, 2015
Wow, I have to honestly say this is by far the best holiday special of this era of the franchise thus far. Hard to believe but the plot of the episode is actually very clever and refreshing; it could have stood alone as its own episode without the Halloween theme! The episode deals with the rangers getting ready for a Halloween party at the museum's restaurant (Which is a thing apparently??? O_o) but it turns out Chase who was in charge of making everyone's costumes....made everyone the exact same costume aka a ghost! It's hilarious and of course a play on Chase's lack of focus and responsibility but it couldn't have come at a worse time when Sledge gets the idea to have Wrench reanimate Duplicon as well as using Memorella, a monster who can steal people's memories, to take the form of the rangers and use their memories to blend into the team so they can steal the energems from the base. Like I said, it's a great plan as Memorella, being turned into one of the rangers by Duplicon and having the ability to steal memories makes it the brilliant plan for the villains to finally outsmart the rangers. Even when Kendall discovers footage of one of the rangers being kidnapped and she summons the rest of the team to the base, all 6 rangers arrive and she isn't able to tell them apart. She advises a plan to keep the rangers' energems until she can find out who the impostor is as she uses some kind of lie detecting simulator to ask them questions that leads to the clip show portion of the episode per usual.
She starts with Riley, who remembers when he first got his energem as well as Tyler when he first ran into Chase and got his energem. Of course, when Chase is question, it's obvious it's him thanks to his over reliance on his good looks and self involved nature. Then there's Koda, who Kendall questions about when he got trapped in the cave and how he made it out. Although, Koda seems to call Kendall "Ms. Morgan".....which slightly bothers her....for a moment. Hmmmmm...... Lastly, there's Shelby and Ivan.....with Shelby looking suspicious nervous and anxious about the whole thing. Kendall soon asks her about why she wanted to play the princess of Zandar as we flashback to "The Royal Rangers" when she had a fit about being one. Of course, Tyler shows up dressed as the prince and Shelby is all eager to be princess to get the Ptera charger back. Only Shelby clearly did it because of her attraction to Tyler but unfortunately when she tries to lie about it, the simulator detects she's NOT HER!!! GASP!!! But it turns out Shelby is her.....as once again Koda calls Kendall "Ms. Morgan"....making her realize that Koda is the fake! GASP part 2! Just as the real Koda makes it back to the base after escaping Duplicon and Curio. Memorella soon reverts back to herself and tries to make it out the base to tell Sledge of the rangers' base location.
Soon all 6 rangers morph and go after her, leading to a final battle where Shelby decides to use the dino cupid charger that Kendall had just made. It turns out it can make anyone fall in love with the first person they see, well, in this case, the Vivix are made to fall in love with Memorella so Ivan and Shelby can combine final attacks to destroy her for good. Unfortunately, Sledge makes her grow and the episode concludes with the usual a megazord battle as they form the Ptera Charge Megazord: Pachy Formation to use the wrecking ball to finish her off to destroy her. The episode ends with a cute building on Tyler and Shelby's romance....before Shelby accidentally makes Chase fall in love with himself....tho he always has been naturally! ;) Overall, like I said, a great thematic holiday special thanks to a really well written, clever plot and manages to make for an episode that pushes the romance arc of the season forward with Tyler and Shelby. :)
Final Morph: B+
