Season 22, Episode 14: True Black

"True Black"
Episode 14
Air Date: October 10th, 2015

Meh! If there is one thing that this show can get seriously bogged down by is when it tries to force some superfluous lesson to be learned within an episode's plot.  Honestly, I find the whole thing so beyond contrived and really wasn't something that didn't need to be so spelled out.  The whole idea of Chases' new weapon not being able to work because he was teasing Shelby, not even bullying or insulting her is just.....!!!! -_-  Suddenly, Keeper comes out of nowhere and tells Chase because he wasn't being true to himself that it causes his energem to be unstable and now he can't use the Dino Armor X to free his friends when he really needs it.  Now I understand the whole nobility of the energems choosing to bond to someone because of their selflessness and heroism, but I highly doubt Chase doing something as insignificant as that in the grand scheme of things being powerful enough for him to not make a new weapon work is ridiculous...even for this show! -_-  Honestly, if Shelby just told Chase about her getting the tickets to the NZed Boys and how important to her it was, I'm sure he would have made more of an effort to be on time.  It's only because of her embarrassment of Chase making fun of her about it that she didn't and she can't tickets to the concert now. I just don't get it! Especially when Chase has done a lot more selfish and careless things like....idk.....not focusing and getting Moana's shop unsafe from monster or almost burning down the museum by ignoring the grill! -_-

Those things didn't interfere with Chase's energem because deep down, like Moana said, Chase can be focused and heroic when it truly counts despite the other rangers' thinking he can't be trusted with something serious.  Or how bought when he was teasing Riley about his sword training and over analyzing!???  It just doesn't make sense given those examples and the writers make Chase not just apologize once but TWICE when Shelby had even already said she had forgiven him by saving them.  Why not Idk, have Chase win the tickets for Shelby and give them to her as a gift??? Wouldn't that have been a nicer coda on an episode instead of having to force more apologizing in an episode where it didn't even really need it, especially THAT much??!!! Anyway, as for the monster of the day, Gold Digger (But she ain't messin' no broke, BROKE! :P) using his slabs to trap the rangers, since they can't breakthrough it was serviceable.  Of course, the new weapon is the only way to break through it when Chase isn't able to activate it.  Seriously, why exactly can only the black energem properly power this weapon??? Koda and Riley couldn't use it for that reason when the rangers really needed it because on the black energem can???  There's not even a reason given by Kendall why it can only work with Chase's energem and NOT the others???  Kinda a big ole plothole there guys. -_-

Anyway, the Dino Armor X is an impressive weapon visually and you can clearly see why it is so powerful.  I just hope this wasn't a one off and we see Chase using more of it is all I'm saying. -_-  We once again get a final megazord battle that includes the new Tri-Stego-Ptera formation....because that's much easier to say than the whole thing. :P  Also, it appears something really nasty is in solitary confinement on Sledge's ship as when he threatens Wrench with it, he is beyond terrified.  Hmmmmmm....  All and all, "True Black" is a bizarre focused episode on Chase that didn't need to be written this way.  It feels a little too harsh on him because of something that was rather innocent and shouldn't have been this sudden detriment on using a new weapon.  It's all really mediocre and pointlessly, overly sensitive message at best that's just poorly executed.
