Season 22, Episode 10: The Royal Rangers
"The Royal Rangers"
Episode 10
Air Date: August 10th, 2015
Well, after last episode's hiccup in the overall exceptional run for this new season so far, "The Royal Rangers" feels much more like the show back to its strengths by showing the rangers being proactive and even tricking Fury in obtaining of the energems. I'm glad the episode starts right with the rangers having to deal with Fury again, as he takes control of the Ptera zord......sigh.....see guys! This wouldn't have happened if Riley just went after Fury while the rangers at least tried to morph and figure their way out! -_- Ok, I swear I'm done complaining about that! lol Anyway, like I said, I love how the episode does begin with the Ptera zord attacking the city and the rangers having to immediately call their zords to fight. It's very unique as it's the first time we see the rangers using their zords in battle while on the ground and unmorphed, it's just a different kind of action scene that actually works. But soon the rangers must morph anyway and call on the Dino Charge Megazord when the Ptera zord transforms into the very awesome looking Ptera Charge Megazord. Not a bad name all things considered but how did Riley know the name??? Did Kendall tell them??? O_o Anyway, the megazord form looks really awesome though, like a vampire with a big black cape. It's just really different as we haven't had megazords with this type of look or asethic on them. But unfortunately for Fury, despite the megazord's awesome power, the Ptera charger once again runs out of power quickly; forcing him to retreat.
While Fury tries to recharge the charger, Wrench makes him realize the entity inside him is either growing weaker or is stopping him from using anymore of its energy to power it up. Meanwhile, as the rangers are going through the Museum's newest attraction, the stone of Zandar, they discover it is actually the gold energem when their energems as well as the gold energem itself glows brightly to reveal itself. Tho I'm wondering do the rangers work at the restaurant and museum workers as well??? We also get a brief story about Sir Ivan of Zandar, who 800 years ago protected the Prince of Zandor but Riley was unable to finish the story due to Fury's attack....for the moment! ;) Anyway, with the gold energem in their possession the rangers come up with a plan to lure Fury to them with the gold energem to finally get the Ptera charger away from him. How will they do this??? By faking a news report about the Prince and Princess of Zandar coming to the museum for a press conference at the museum about the Stone of Zandor as well as setting up the actual event. Tho once again, I'm confused, the Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum....why are they displaying the Stone of Zandar there??? O_o Was it because it was found in a Pteractyl fossil??? Doesn't make much sense, especially when during the sub-plot with this random artist named Julian trying to get his drawings shown at the museum is dismissed by Kendall when Shelby tries to vouch for him. Also, Julian is Shelby's friend but he almost seems like just a superfluous character to the story. -_-
Anyway, the plan works, especially with getting Shelby and Tyler hilariously closer romantically by playing the Prince and Princess (LOL, the kiss on the cheek! Awwww! :) and Fury soon attacks to get his hands on the gold energem but luckily, it was a fake and Fury is soon kicked out of the zord; leading to a confrontation between him and the rangers. He also has a duo of monsters fighting alongside him to help him destroy the rangers. While the rest of the rangers deal with the two monsters, Tyler once again goes head to head with Fury and manages to subdue him with his as well as Chase's weapon to get him to give the charger. But once again, the entity within him fights and when the rangers tell him to take the chance to destroy Fury, we see that there is in fact some kind of person insider Fury fighting to get out; leaving Tyler stunned and wondering if that is in fact his father trapped in Fury. It's a nice way of bringing both plots together as well as setting up a tough task of the rangers having to free what's insider him before destroying him and getting the charger back. Overall, despite a series of questionable plot points throughout that leave me seriously puzzled, "The Royal Rangers" is still really enjoyable and fun to watch. The moments between Shelby and Tyler as the fake prince and princess were priceless, especially when Shelby gets all hot and bothered by Tyler looking so formal and diplomatic. LOL
