Season 21, Episode 14: In the Driver's Seat

"In the Driver's Seat"
Episode 14
Air Date: October 11th, 2014

..........if you ever needed a reason why Super Megaforce is truly the most disappointing season and the biggest missed opportunity of the franchise, look no further than this episode that is a prime example of how truly, unfathomably insulting it is to fans of the series who've been following for so long.  It's almost as if it was the writers' mission, thanks to Tzachor, to not only screw the boundless awesomeness that this season could have brought to the overarching main story of the franchise and completely sh!t on the previously established seasons of the show by paying tribute to them in the worst possible way!!! -_-  "RPM" has been hailed as one of the finest seasons of the show, arguably the very best next to In Space and/or Dino Thunder.....and yet.....In the Driver's Seat is so utterly disrespectful to the particular season that it makes you want to stop watching and really process how infuriating it is that something as dark and most riveting for the show is treated like some childish gimmick that doesn't entertain or make ANY sense!!! -_-  Dear God, why even bring back Professor Cog!??? He wasn't that great of a villain during that Samurai/RPM crossover movie and he is even more pathetic here than the last.  Although, he does get a moment of vocalizing just how incompetent and pitiful the armada must be if they are apparently so powerful but haven't taken over the world yet.  One of two only memorable moments throughout the embarrassing mess!!! As for the other?!

Well, during the rangers' inter-dimensional journey to the RPM universe, we have a truly well written and genuine hearbreaking moment of Orion lamenting his lost home world but finding hope and strength in his new home as well as new friends to continue the fight against the armada.  It makes you wonder if the writers are capable of writing moments like this that feel so thought-out and caring of the characters as well as story, then why are episodes like this filled with such baffoonery and over the top hijinks that it feels like the show is making fun of itself instead of highlighting many traditions and references of the show's history.  The trip to Cornith should have been a very serious, life changing tale of the SMF Rangers running into the that world's team of rangers or even meeting Dr. K to truly show them how awful it would be if their main universe turned into the same.  Have Orion talk about what happened in Andresia and Dr. K showing the rangers what it took to defeat Venjix as well as the sacrifices they made to save their world so they could rebuild.  .......But all we get is a footage of Go-Onger to show the rangers in Cornith but do we see anyone there??? Nope! Just a random racing zord that is out of control and the rangers shouting at it to get its attention.  That's pretty much ALL of what happens in Corinth! WOW....just......oh and they tame the zord and it becomes their new ally.  BIG WHOOP! All the depth and substance that could have came from this tribute episode and the writers come up with the worst plausible scenario.  Also, the zord can just break through the fabric of time and space forcing an interdimensional portal open.....yet, later in the episode the rangers need to summon the zord from RPM's world into theirs......WHAT!???! -_-

Oh and of course, the rangers are idiots and it was clearly a trap set up by Cog.  I love how they are so optimistic and nonchalant about traveling to another universe by brushing off Gosei's reservations about leaving the Earth unprotected. The smart thing that they should have done was split the team up to investigate in Cornith while the rest stay behind to protect the city but NOPE! Our heroes once again showing how the hell they keep saving the day when they can't even use common sense to come up with a strategy that could easily avoid situations that they ended up in!!! -_-  Even the rivalry between the armada and Cog's forces was underwhelming and just ends with Cog trying to destroy the rangers themselves when they return.  Once again, the rangers accomplish nothing and here comes a new megazord formation aka the Legendary RPM Megazord.....sigh..... just keep throwing these things at these teens.  They are beyond spoiled! Surprised they don't just ask for a new zord every episode and tell Gosei "just give it to us already, we don't need some dramatic moment when we're getting our a$$es kicked. Why not give it to us all at once!?? We haven't earned a new zord since well ever but you keep not giving us this stuff until it's convenient to be a failed Zordon replacement!" -_-  My god.....next episode! God help me!
