Season 10, Episode 5: Isis
"Isis"
Episode 5
Air Date: October 22nd, 2010
After the 200th episode showed up a glimpse of the future, Isis' central story is about Clark making the biggest decision of his life to obtain said future. With Lois knowing Clark's secret, all that needs to be done is for him to tell her aka trust her with his secret. Tho it doesn't stop Lois from practicing how to tell Clark she knows his secret during a hilarious sequence of her practicing how to tell. Gotta love Erica Durance as usual, especially playing Lois mimicking Clark's half of the talk. Ha! I even love how Clark goes to Oliver for some humorous advice on the subject and ends up just following his heart. Of course, this is Smallville....or rather Metropolis now honestly??? O_O So Clark and Lois' big talk about his secret is seriously inconvenience by the missing Amulet of Isis Lois accidentally took with her from Cairo. She soon becomes possessed by the Egyptian Goddess herself (and DC character to boot! ;) as Isis dismisses Clark so hilariously when he tells her he's the Blur. After such a heavy episode in grand scheme of the series, Isis' threat of the week of unleashing the Underworld upon the Earth is pretty lite comparison but it gives the writers a chance to build on characters and new character dynamics. But first let me just talk about Cat! Poor thing, the writers are turning her into the laughing stock of the show aka the comic relief.....and I'm all for it. Cat seems like a character who can only work in small doses and having her come in and out to annoy her fellow reporters like Clark and Lois works, especially how they dismiss her and barely take her seriously. I even loved the moment where Cat interrupts Isis' ritual to bring back Osiris and runs into Green Arrow....only him to put her in a sarcophagus because of how annoying she is.
Also, Tess is being given a more heroic role this season in terms of redeeming the character after being such a moral gray villian/anti-hero for the past two seasons. But it makes sense with Chloe M.I.A, that she would make the perfect replacement, tho what about Emil??? O_O He'd be a far greater asset to the team and has been. I guess they need a female member of the team to not make the young Justice League a sausage fest I guess??? :P But I enjoyed in the inner struggle for Clark and especially Oliver to make Tess an official ally. She's done A LOT in terms of messing things up, not to mention killing people but I'm glad the writers show a more vulnerable side of Tess that is relatable by explaining why she's so twisted and took the path that she did. Give what we know of her past and how she's been treated by men like Lex, I'm not surprised that Tess would grow into this loveless rigid dreamer who's been trying so hard to save the world but really only wants acceptance and real loved given to her. The moment Clark and Oliver officially hand over Watchtower to her is incredibly emotional and well done by Cassidy Freedman. But I also love how Oliver and Clark are clearly testing her to see if she can be trusted by giving her Watchtower, not to mention keep more of an eye on her. Smart! :)
The story also continues with little Alexander as Tess is weary of who the young clone will become but after being given a chance to help out the heroes on a regular basis, Tess finally decides to not treat him like some experiment that needs to be watched or tested, but treat him like the young boy he is and raise him to be loved. It's another surprisingly emotional scene and I love how Tess tears up after Alexander crawls into her arms and says "I love you Tess!" Damn last season is gonna be the end of my crying capabilities! :_( But I haven't even reach the pinnacle of what makes the episode more than worth the watch as after another over the top comedic encounter between Clark getting in between Lois and Cat, the two are finally alone to talk but Clark seems like once again is gonna not tell her his secret out of protecting her....ehhhhh. -_- What an incredibly well written and directed fake out as it seems the moment where things get all melodramatic and depressing...Clark continues the conversation and actually tells a completely stunned Lois that he is the Blur! Omg!!! The acting, the score, the confetti falling all them as Lois gives Clark a big ole kiss of pure joy and Clark realizes she knew all along.....ehhhhh....my god, the writers are really bring back some genuine hopeful and joyous emotion this season making Isis feel like a great prelude of more moments of emotional highs and resounding brightness toward Clark's final days before becoming the Man of Steel. :)
Final Kryptonite: B+
