Season 25, Episode 4: Making Waves

"Making Waves"
Episode 4
Air Date: February 17th, 2017

Oh look!!! The rangers got a new zord.....and it's a submarine zord.....that transforms into a humanoid robot on a surfboard.....because Ninjas are so well known for submarines and surfing.........why do I even highlight the absurdity of the show, especially when it comes to the Sentai footage anymore!???  This is 25th anniversary season and I should be more concerned when the show DOESN'T have bizarre, wacky visuals/aesthetics like this!!! lol I know Judd Lynn was probably use to this kind of stuff already after working on the show was over 2 decades at this point but I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when he witnesses the creative audacity to mix Ninjas with such random things as a dog, a construction truck, a UFO and now a submarine that turns into a surfer dude bro riding the waves man! Yet the sheer insanity of this fact is juxtaposed to actually pretty monster story as well as an even more genuine human story for Hayley and Sarah.  I liked meeting Hayley's dad and I have to admit, I'm not surprised that Sarah's mom would fall for him so quick being a marine biologist as well as him vice verse considering she is also somewhat of a genius.  This plot just seemed so relatable and made sense for two teenage girls to act that way when seeing their parents "hooking up".....oh God, I'll just say "dating"! Ewwwwww! lol

Watching the two of them mess up their parents date because it's too weird it would be for them is pretty funny and while harsh, it makes for a nice lesson for the two to learn about just letting people be when they work really well together despite their attractions to each other.  Of course, Mick has to be the one to cleverly trick the girls into realizing the error of their ways but I guess I'll give it a pass this time since it worked so well being interconnected to the monster of the week plot. Doomwave, the latest contestant on Galaxy Warriors, is sent to Earth to create a tidal wave to destroy Summer Cove and subsequently the rangers to get their power stars (Seriously, Odius has the BEST plans! No mercy! :)  Unfortunately, while Doomwave's tsunami machine is damaged, he goes into the ocean at the beach to fix it while the rangers use their ranger identities to get Sarah and Hayley's parents to work together which is a great idea! Who better to get them to work together quickly than the Power Rangers needing their help???  Also, the talk that their parents have in apologizing and realizing their daughters sabotaged their date was written very naturally and well acted by both actors.

Luckily, after the parents fix the drone, the rangers are able to hold off Doomwave and his Basherbots while Hayley and Sarah use the drone to bring the tsunami machine to the surface to destroy it with their blasters.  The rangers then combine forces to finish off Doomwave but he is made to grow.....GIGANTIFY! as Mick has made a new zord star for the rangers!  The Sub Surfer star that turns the drone into the aforementioned new submarine zord and.......becomes the Sub Surfer Megazord.....dear GOD! The obnoxiously silliness!!! *Insanity ensues* But that's not it as the rangers form the Sub Surfer Ninja Steel Megazord.....because......very long titles for megazords keeps being a thing between these two seasons.  Not to mention, how many zords do the rangers have now exactly???? O_o  A Bull, a bull rider, a UFO, a green Elephant, a Lion tank and now submarine....cause NINJAS!!!??? *Buries myself* Anyway, Victor and Dorky are here but considerably not as much.  Just ban them from the city already, no two teens could get away with this much antics and not get punished for it long term.  Anyway, "Making Waves" has some visually ridiculous elements as per tradition for this show, but the human story and monster plot make up for it; being nicely written enough to be very enjoyable. :)

Final Morph: B+
