Season 15, Episode 26: Red Ranger Unplugged
"Red Ranger Unplugged"
Episode 26
Air Date: October 1st, 2007
Well, this is a step in the right direction, it seems the big revelation with Mack has sparked some intensity and moral dilemma for the show that's been missing for the most part outside of one or two episodes. Of course, Mack taking advice from Dax is the worst way he can figure out his identity post-Android realization (Tho I am amused that Dax's father knew how dumb Dax would be in becoming a stuntman....must have got it from his momma??? :P) but I love the idea of Mack doing some soul searching and trying to figure who he is given that he's not human and has just been alive for a little over 2 years. It's Overdrive so, when Mack wants to start finding out who he truly is, he decides to become some reject Motley Crew member and play heavy metal all day. Cause you know, this is what comedy is during this era of the show....and I haven't even reached the Neo-Saban Era yet!!! -_- But I wish this side of the story was explored more than the constant globe trotting since most of these locations are looking more and more like another part of New Zealand than actual different countries at this point. There have been a couple of awesome exceptions but I really am beyond bored with the main arc with the crown and jewels.....it's just...not exciting in the least anymore!!! But Mack having a very palpable and touching moment with his dad finally about his existence is waaayyyy more interesting and dynamic....at least until Mack's dad does the ultimate bad parenting mistake of reminding him he's not human....Jesus Hartford!!! Where's Spencer with these heartfelt talks when you need him! -_-
Also, despite the episode kinda centering around Mack, the title of the episode is a bit nonsensical since it shifts to Tyzonn as yet another Fear Cat arrives in the form of Crazar, cause well....we need more villains not actual development for the more than enough we have??? O_o At least Crazar is connected to more of Tyzonn's backstory as apparently Crazar was the reason he lost his fiancee, Vella, in the cave in as well. Jesus, when Tyzonn isn't being an overbearing weirdo, the writers really make his character depressing, sheesh!!! Anyway, the other Fear Cats are busy looking for some magical chalice which I'm sure will lead them to the last jewel or whatever. But why talk about that when we can talk about how Flurious keeps trusting and sending Norg to do very important tasks apart of his plan when Norg is always, always, ALWAYS messing up??? Not to mention, the whole cold thing is so unfunny and disgusting....seriously, how is this even funny for a kids show??? It's just wrong and disturbing!!! Had to stop eating while Norg was sneezing green snot everywhere!!! *Vomit* O_O
But of course, the episode is also the debut of yet another megazord aka the DualDrive Megazord which is made of of all the 5 auxiliary which they use to battle Crazar when she becomes too powerful and grows of course. But it isn't enough to destroy her as Tyzonn uses some Mercurian spell against her as well which combined, helps the rangers defeat her once and for all.....but I believe this isn't exactly the last of her in some shape or form??? O_o Anyway, the episode ends with Mack deciding to just be the Mack he's always been so far instead of soul searching....sigh.....and instead is apart of a very mediocre punchline about heavy metal as he's father continues to look concerned over him. I hope the writers do more with Mack and his android/who am I saga as it's the only thing going for it in this episode. I mean, the rangers being caught in a net and Ronny narrowly escaping her potential death being nothing more than a throwaway joke is just the Overdrive I'm am sick and tired of watching, dear GAWD!!! O_O
Final Morph: C+
