Season 24, Episode 7: Hack Attack
"Hack Attack"
Episode 7
Air Date: March 18th, 2017
I honestly don't get how advancements in technology are handled so casually in the PR main universe. Sure, Sarah invented a legit hoverboard instead of the actual crap we have in reality now a days that's really just a self moving skateboard :P, but let's remember that Billy all the way in Season 1 invented a flying car and then it just disappeared from existence after that season. -_- I'm just saying, if Sarah is such a genius that she can create multiple holograms of herself, why the hell is she worried about getting into a good college for??!! O_o Billy ended up graduating during his senior year because of being so smart and that wasn't even witnessing his impressive feats of inventions yet Sarah who is apparently a strong athlete physically but also a expert at technology wonders like hologram devices isn't being praised and already in college!?? I just say that because it just doesn't make sense despite the hilarity of the situation. Seriously, have we ever had a a pink ranger with such scientific expertise??? There was Kendrix in "Lost Galaxy" and even Shelby the last two seasons, but Sarah is definitely on a whole different level. Makes me wonder if we'll get any backstory on how see became such an athletic scientist??? Definitely would be a first for the show. But the story does have more than its comedic bits as once again, Mick observes a ranger's erratic behavior and steps in to make them realize what the actual problem is without spelling it out for them. And I gotta say, I really like Mick as being the advisor/tech guy of the team, able to create new weapons/zords for the rangers via the Ninja Steel and Nexus Prism but cleverly making the rangers realize when they missing the point and quickly learn a lesson without having a typical Power Rangers lecture toward a flawed character in need of development.
The monster of the day plot also prove to be entertaining with the latest monster after the power stars, Hacktrack, after the rangers but discovering Sarah's hologram device by mistake during an ambushed training season the rangers were having and using it so Galvanax can make multiple giant versions of himself to destroy the city. Yeah, an impressive feat and nice plan all things considered but it just highlights how.....generic and kinda uninteresting Galvanax is as a main villain when even 8 grown versions of him are hardly intimidating or hard to undo in the long run. Doesn't help he sounds like your typical monster of the week than say Sledge's personality makes it work or Heckyl being so inventive, sly and menacing. Sure he's the ultimate Galaxy Warriors Champion but his motivation so far doesn't really help either. So he wants the power stars to rule the universe....ummm...ok??? Doesn't really justify the means of his TV show if that's the case, since he's making a game out of it and doesn't seem like the evil ruler type honestly. It would make more sense if Cosmo Royal, the host of Galaxy Warriors was the main villain by using the rangers and their destiny to protect the Prism from evil as a game to boost his ratings by not caring about the Earth and just using it as a playground of Galaxy Warrior, etc. Would make him a refreshing new kind of villain we haven't seen before like Heckyl last season but oh well.....o_o
Also, this episode debuts yet another zord but once again, it's a natural progression as the Prism has a vision to help their rangers in their latest battle against Hacktrack when he flies off into space and the rangers can't follow. Mick uses the Prism and Ninja Steel to create....an Astro Star to summon the Astro Zord....a literally flying saucer!!! Because SPACE!!! O_o Seriously, this Sentai had the most random mash up of zords, what does a UFO have to do with Ninjas!??? UHhhhhhhhh!!! Anyway, I did enjoy the fight on the moon tho (Giving me in space flashbacks! :) and the...Astro Ninja Steel Megazord looks ummm.....O_o....anyway, it was nice fight and welcomed changed of scenery for a fight sequence with new megazord. But even more shocking is how the episode ends with a major plot twist in the Gold Power Star saga as Madame Odius' captured intruder uses the rangers' new Astro Zord to escape Galvanax's ship and land Summer Cove where a new reporter reports its landing as the world witnesses the arrival of the Gold Ranger. Nice suit! Mick and the rangers are shocked and wonder what is going on, as well as quickly finding out who he is and how he got the Gold Power star. Overall, entertaining for the most part and plot movement a plenty! :)
