Season 24, Episode 3: Live and Learn
"Live and Learn"
Episode 3
Air Date: February 4th, 2017
Well, with our status quo already set up, Live and Learn feels like your average episode of Power Rangers which seems to be a staple for the show when a ranger, in particular the Red Ranger has to learn about "TEAMWORK!" In this case, on Brody's first day of school, he can't help but continually use his com which is connected to Galvanax's ship as a means to answer all his problems in not just school but on the field instead of relying on the team. Tho is makes sense since Brody has essentially been on his own for the past ten years, enslaved on an alien and relying on that thing to always get him out of trouble or answer some question. Tho I have to wonder randomly how Brody is able to enroll in Summer Cove without any transcripts or any established identity and records from the past ten years he was not on Earth!??? O_o But one thing that is explained is that Mick will be creating new power-ups for the rangers via the Ninja Steel that he forges in their base into new stars and throwing them into the Nexus Prism......because! O_o Would have been nice to get a proper first training sequence with the rangers in their very cool looking ninja suits...but we only get a semi-laughable moment of Calvin losing control of his element star....before the rest of team disappears because of ending up in the same situation. lol
I gotta say these characters aren't really doing it for me in the charisma department! I know it's only episode 3 but Idk, Brody, Preston, Sarah, etc. just come off kind of....really flat compared to Tyler and the others from the past two seasons. I mean some of that could be the acting, in particular Brody's actor, William Shewfelt, is such an anti-Brennan Mejia in his deliver. Tyler was so full of enthusiasm, energy and always excitable compared to Brody's very dry and stoic personality. Now don't get me wrong, he's a HELL of a lot more tolerable, even likable than Jayden and especially....Troy......*Remember the robotic faces* HHAAAAAA! I guess I'm just not really invested in these characters yet compared to the last that's all who had too much personality and chemistry in comparison. *Shrug* Anyway, Galvanax sends another monster, this time, Spinferno...a roller bladding fire/speedster monster......because Power Rangers down to get the power stars for the latest episode of Galaxy Warriors. Unfortunately, Victor and Monty show up to confront the monster when they get their hands on Brody's com watch and think they can actually get famous facing off against the monster. Oh brother.....this is.......my head already hurts in ways I never thought possible. Moving on......!!! While Brody is all concerned about getting his missing com watch back, the rest of the team head out to face Spinferno, trying to make him realize he doesn't need it, we're a team, blah, blah, blah, you get this show by now.
But of course, it takes Mick sneaking up on Brody as a skeleton....for some reason to give Brody some words of wisdom to make him finally understand he doesn't need the com and has been coming up with the answers himself as of late like escaping Galvanax's ship, etc. As the rangers get their a$$es handed to them, Brody arrives and morphs....and man these morph calls are getting ridiculously lengthy, not to mention wordy. Not much enthusiasm as well when calling it out Brodster! :P Anyway, the Ninja Steel Rangers fight off Spinferno while also fighting off some Kudabots before coming up with a plan to trap him and destroy him. It involves...Calvin riding his Ninja Star Blade like a witch on a broomstick until they reach the entrance of the park......WOW! But it works and they end up using their new ninja element stars to destroy him. But the fight isn't over and while Spinferno isn't made to grow, Cosmo Royale, the host of Galaxy Warriors gets the crowd to choose to summon a giant monster, Skullgator, to destroy the rangers instead. After summoning their zords, Brody gets the idea to form the megazord cause working as one, blah, blah! The Ninja Steel Megazord is.....definitely unique I'll say that. It's a giant red robot using the other combined zords as a throne to sit on while holding a saber and shield....cause Ninjas!?? O_o Ninniger really was one of the weirdest Sentai and that's saying A LOT. So they destroy Skullgator and Brody learned his lesson by giving the rangers new ninja coms so they can communicate as a team instead of his com watch. Yay! Overall, decent episode but nothing out of the ordinary for Power Rangers! :)
