Season 23, Episode 14: Silver Secret
"Silver Secret"
Episode 14
Air Date: October 1st, 2016
You know, only on Power Rangers would you have an episode dealing with a massive reveal and betrayal of a fellow ranger that pushes the story forward in a more in-depth, serious way.....juxtaposed to a sub-plot about Shelby and Tyler auditioning to be back up singers for a popular boy band from New Zealand! Yes, the N-Zed Boys are apparently in town and since Chase got to know them recently, they are holding their auditions at the restaurant aka....the museum.....so you can just have auditions in a museum for musical acts??? O_o Everything that happens in this episode and that has got to be the most unrealistic thing about it. Honestly, the whole sub-plot is merely to finally make some major progress in the Shelby/Tyler romance. Since Shelby wants to audition and it crazy in love with the band's lead singer, Marla Stephens, who is sooooo handsome and makes her melt. Tyler, finding this out, soon begins to practice his audition with Chase in a hilarious scene where Chase pretty much tell Tyler he sucks beyond words. lol But it ends with Chase giving Tyler some genuine advice about wooing Shelby...by just telling her how he feels instead of making a potential fool out of himself. Unfortunately, Tyler still tries out and can't seem to get the lyrics out before Shelby comes to his rescue. You think the moment Tyler starts imagining the judges looking like pineapples would be the most ridiculous part of the scene but it's Shelby and Tyler singing while busting out so synchronized choreography for the audition like they had rehearsed for over a week. LMAO, a little on the nose with the romantic connection there guys. O_o
But random joint performances aside, it does lead to a moment where finally Tyler confesses his feelings to Shelby while Shelby in return tells her she has always been more than impressed with him for him, especially how he's about to face off with Doomwing alone for their plan. Insert Koda ruining the first proper kiss we would have had since the VERY FIRST SEASON but I'm glad that now Tyler and Shelby can officially be a couple already. Awwwwww!!! :) Meanwhile in main story news, the Silver Ranger has arrived back on Earth as the ranger intercept him and he tells them he escaped from Arcanon's chapter. The rangers once again putting it together quickly that something isn't right, question how Arcanon got their zord data and while the Silver Ranger does his best to convince the team of his altruism; Riley reveals the Titano charger they found last episode after saying he only made 9 chargers. Gotta love when the rangers have so much intelligence and ingenuity after the seasons for the last two showed them to be so incompetent. -_- Soon the Silver Ranger reveals the clever rouse and demorphs to reveal he was Doomwing all along as they fight. But if that wasn't freaky enough, we also learn that Doomwing shares the same body with another entity called Zenowing when he transform into him. Basically, it's the same thing with Heckyl and Snide, only Zenowing is good and was forced to bond with Doomwing by Arcanon a long time ago.
With Doomwing and Zenowing intertwined literally, Kendall and the rangers come up with a device as well as a plan to split the two beings apart to free Zenowing as well as the Silver energem, especially when it turns out Zenowing is a former appearance of Keeper??? Ummmm, this is why we need some serious backstory on these mentor characters!!! -_- Seriously, what is up with Keeper!!??? Anyway, after cockblock Koda, Tyler confronts Doomwing in battle on his own while the rangers set up the device to split them. It succeeds as both of them are split apart but unfortunately, Doomwing has the silver energem encased in his sword. Luckily, without sharing a body with Zenowing, Doomwing can no longer morph even with the energem in his possession. News that makes Arcanon very unhappy and telling Doomwing he is now useless too him. What will happen to old Doomy now!??? O_o Either way, "Silver Secret" is a strong, stellar episode that manages to show the rangers in a very smart, positive light, especially Tyler figuring out Doomwing put a listening device on his ranger com. The sub-plot while typical Power Rangers cheese was cute and sweet by getting Tyler and Shelby to finally admit their feelings for each other by giving into them. Not bad! :)
