Season 23, Episode 20: End of Extinction

"End of Extinction"
Episode 20
Air Date: November 19th, 2016

.......Well......THAT happened! O_O Honestly, "End of Extinction" isn't outright garbage and one of the worst episodes ever from the franchise but I think the biggest insult is how utterly pointless a lot of plot points feel....not to mention, shows the rangers being pretty incompetent in...you know.....destroying the world while trying to save it.  It definitely has its moments of epicness and grandness that a season final, especially one concluding two seasons of story, needs to properly draw you in as we watch these characters' story come to a close.  Buuuuuuuttttt, once again, there are things about this finale that will leave you head scratching, not to mention the immense amount of plotholes that are left so carelessly and utterly ignored by the rangers because suddenly "The fight's over" and saying goodbye before going home.  But I'm getting ahead of myself.  Starting right where last episode left off, the rangers head back to the base immediately as Fury leads an attack to find the dark energem.  After fighting off a crew of Vivix in front of the museum, the rangers arrive in time to save Keeper from Fury who was literally getting tossed around by the general.  After Fury retreats, the rangers soon get a message from Sledge about the Earth's impending doom of being frozen to death.  Yes, apparently the next phase of Sledge's plan was the remnants of each Greenzilla egg attaching massive tentacles between the Earth and Sledge's ship so he could drag it away from the sun as the Earth slowly freezes to its ultimate destruction.

Not a bad finale plan all things considered, especially as when Sledge's ship literally begins to pull the Earth away from the sun, Kendall tells them they only have maybe an hour or so before all life on Earth is frozen.  Keeper reminds them the only way to save Earth is by destroying the dark energem so the full power of all 10 energems can be used.  But of course, destroying won't be easy but Chase soon gets an idea when Riley concludes maybe light is the only thing that can destroy it considering it was made out of darkness aka pure EVILLLLL!!! O_o So the rangers soon round up the insane panic of the world as people run in fear of the world being dragged when they announce on big screens and radios across the world that they need their help in saving the world.  As the Plesio Zord launches into space and meet up with the other rangers, the people of Earth collect as many mirrors and put them all together when it is time to reflect the sun's light onto the dark energem when they release it into space to be destroyed.  Adding to the literally of world shining on the energem, all 10 rangers and Heckyl combine their powers to blast the dark energem and destroy it!!!  Only by doing so they have created a giant black hole that not only sucks Sledge and his forces into it, but the entire planet as well.  Yeah,....... the rangers' plan ended up killing billions of people and sucking the Earth into oblivion. Not exactly the show's greatest moment and makes them look very ummmmm....WOW! O_O *Hangs head low in disappointment*

But fear not! Now with the dark energem destroyed, the full power of all 10 energems can now be used when Keeper tells them to unmorph and throw them into space.  As all 10 energems combine power, they open a portal since the energems transcend past, present and future...meaning the rangers will now time travel into the past to stop Sledge once and for all before all of this happens.  Ok, hope is not lost and the rangers can make up for their massive mistake.....only Keeper sends 65 million years into the past when Keeper crash landed on Earth!??? Ummmmm, why tho??? O_O  Why not just travel back to stop the rangers from their plan or making sure the world isn't destroyed!?? -_-  Now with the rangers far in the past to where this all started, they decide to confront Keeper that day and fight off Sledge.  I love how they reuse the bomb joke from the very first episode during Fury's destruction.  Not to mention, Tyler calling out Sledge's magnabeam to Sledge's hilarious shock was awesome!  But alas, it leads to the biggest WTF! of the episode when the rest of the team storms Sledge's ship and force it on a collision course for the sun while also attaching a giant Sledge to it before taking off.  So not only have the rangers critically altered the future but for some reason, Heckyl is STILL alive when his past self and Snide are being destroying in the ship by the sun. Ummmmm what!??? -_-  Also, how is Keeper even able to use the energems to create portals to various time period when the dark energem still exists in the present!???  Didn't Keeper say the dark energem had to be destroy for them to use the full power of the energems!?!?!? Oh my head! *Headache of Rita Replusa portions begins*  So Koda and Ivan going back to their timeline isn't much of an issue but ummm, Heckyl going back in time to stop his planet from being destroyed and the dark energem taken IS!!!! -_-  Now there's even two Zenowings! But one of them is going to the past with Heckyl and.......ahhhhhhh!!!!

But that's not even the end of it when the rangers from the present arrive back in their timeline only to find out that since the dinosaurs were never destroyed by Sledge's asteroid, dinosaurs are still alive in the present and now co-exist with humans......  Now I understand back them why the fandom was furious over this and why even after all these years are still resentful of this conclusion to the point where they dislike Supercharge as a whole. Until Ninja Super Steel, when it was revealed Dino Charge takes place in its own universe, the fandom thought the finale singlehandedly destroyed the 20+ continuity of the show at that point.  How would the MMPR even exist if the dinosaurs were NEVER extinct!???  Not the best way to end your series and I doubt this was all Chip's idea.  Definitely some serious meddling from the higher ups and even worse to come unfortunately.  As a finale, End of Extinction has all the ingredients for one hell of an ender to the Dino Charge/Dino Supercharge saga, but there is too much incompetent and nonsensical writing that leaves you with too many questions and feeling coped out of an awesome finish that the show should have promised after what had come before the past two years. Sigh.......

Final Morph: D+
