Season 15, Episode 6: Pirate In Pink

Well, it could have been MUCH worse.  I'll give the writers credit for at least making Rose's episode and development slightly ok, but with Overdrive, it comes with a whole lot of stupidity and non-sense that becomes frustrating with it! -_-  So the rangers arrive on St. Lucia and begin talking about the legend of Black Beard the pirate who apparently haunts the island now after his death.  Rose being all book smart and intelligent thinks they should have done their research as his treasure as well as ghosts don't exist.  As rangers continue to explore the island, they find clues leading them further to where the jewel might be, like a piece of Black Beard's ship.  Of course, Rose continues to take the lead and tell them that ghosts don't exist which just makes me laugh.  How is it in the PR Main Universe, there are always rangers that never believe in something supernatural or fantasy??? O_o  By now, the Earth been attacked by demons, Orgs, evil space aliens to mutated dinosaur man, machine empires and dark vengeful wizards. Hell, there was even two episodes with a mermaid, not to mention TJ running into Erutan aka Forest God boy that could summon the elements!!! O_O  Anyway, as the rangers enter the cave, they run into the spirit of Black Beard who is about as cliche as a pirate can get.  Everyone's all amazed, but Rose clearly thinks he's a fake, especially when she storms off when he offers to help him find one of the jewels aka the Eye of the Sea.

As Rose walks around the forest all pissed off, Black Beard confronts her and asks what he problem is.  Apparently Rose has never had any fun all her life while constantly studying, becoming a genius, going off to college to gain multiple degrees,,,oh and now saving the world from evil aliens after an extremely powerful artifact that could destroy the world.  Meanwhile, Miratrix is back and with her amulet housing a monster named Kamdor, who grants her another monster to help her follow the rangers to the jewel.  Still love how we know absolutely nothing about these two or how they knew about the crown??? Dax mentions that Miratrix is an intergalactic space warrior but how the hell does he know that???  There's literally no briefing on who these new villains are by Hartford (who is strangely missing from this episode??? O_o) but the rangers seem to know all about them already...huh??? Anyway, while trying to find Rose, Miratrix and her new monster attack the rangers but during the fight he manages to get the map to the jewel.  Luckily, Rose is possessed by Black Beard and we get an over the top performance by her as well as explosion fest fight scene. After she hilariously kicks their ass and gets the map, the two retreat as the rangers try to figure out what's gotten into her.  I love how in the immediate next scene they just know it's Black Beard possessing her without any scene of them finding that out or anything. Anyway, after un-possessing Rose when they find the eye of the sea, Black Beard double crosses them and takes it for himself; leaving Miratrix able to attack them and steal the jewel.  Honestly, all I'm wondering is how Black Beard is affected by multiple blasts since he's already dead!!! O_O

Hell, even later in the episode, Mack has to save, yes, SAVE him from being crushed by a building and Black Beard is clearly scared of being hurt!!! He's. A. Ghost!!! -_-  After returning from St. Lucia all pissed, Mack and Rosie get a visual of Miratrix about to attack the city when Black Beard arrives...some how...to get it back.  Before Rosie runs off to fend them off, Spencer mentions a new zord for Rose to use in the form of....a construction truck again called the Shovel Driver....Jesus, I would have hated to be a kid during this era of the franchise considering the rangers are a cross between Indian Jones-ketters and Bob the Builder aesthetics!!! O_o Anyway, when Mirtatrix makes her monster use the jewel and he grows into....a saw type truck  as the two machines just ram each other until the other rangers arrive and defeat him; which gives them back the jewel.  But Miratrix just makes him grow again thanks to amulet guy and the rangers have to form the DriveMax Megazord Claw Formation to finish him for good.  Even tho Miratrix retreats, it appears Black Beard has taken the jewel again.  Jesus dude!!! Naw, ole snatch and grab gives them back the jewel at the mansion and apologizes but the thing doesn't even turn out to be the first jewel...it's Black Beards lucky pearl that he luckily gives the rangers that happens to be it....HUH???  O_O And I just love how the episode ends with Rose revealing she had fun as a pirate after dropping Black Beard home and giving him a beard cut.  How??? he's a ghost??? Ghosts don't need rides or get beard cuts...they are DEAD!!! O_O  All and all, the best character centered episode so far but not saying much considering the horrifying run of episodes so far.  Pretty fun, pretty stupid, even if the moral of Rose's lesson was barely a plot point or a character revelation. O_o :(
