Season 13, Episode 37: Endings, Part 1

Welp, we've finally have reached the conclusion of S.P.D. and saying that Part 1 was slow on story; not to mention action would be telling the harshest of lies.  While once again, the episode titles are weak af and basic (seriously, "Beginnings" and "Endings"???)  It's not even the fact this season follows a one word title structure, it's the fact the writers couldn't come up with MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better titles for the beginning and end of their season....OMG...dammit! O_o  I love how the episode jumps right to where we left off as A Squad has clearly switched sides thanks to Grumm offered them a place in his new world order after he claims the Earth while Cruger nonchalant about how the A Squad aren't rangers. Despite that, A Squad volunteers to take care of B Squad so Grumm can continue his final plan.  Meanwhile, Grumm wants to get his revenge on Cruger but his boss aka a TRUE big bad this season, who we finally see for the first time....a big brain with tentacles; floating in a tank with a eye attached to end of one of them...yeah.....O_O And he speaks apparently...and has about as a generic evil voice as you'd expect but I guess it's nice to finally see who's really been behind Grumm's conquests this season.  Anyway, the rangers are alerted to the Command Center after Jack has a bad conversation with Ally about where he wants to be....hmmmmm.  Kat tells them A Squad has taken Cruger just as A Squad contacts them to meet up for a fight.  While the rangers leave, Kat warns them it's an obvious trap but it's awesome to see the rangers are willing to take the risk to save their mentor.  Not to mention, she tells them Cruger said they were the best team he's ever had! Awwwwww. :)

Sigh....what follows next is some random HUGE explosion as A Squad just walks toward the location of the fight.....Just....ignoring that, because if that wasn't bad enough, most of the fight between A Squad and B Squad is just Kalishplosions left and right with barely any action you can see.  I love how A Squad taunts the B Squad before they summon S.W.A.T. to finish them off but the action is really getting to the point of obnoxious. over the top spectacle. -_-  Moving on, after beating A Squad they take the fight to a giant robot while Kat and Boom are being attacked by a swarm of Krybots and monsters led by Broodwing.  Yes, this episode is pretty much the final assault by Broodwing in his own crusade to conquer Earth and I gotta say the attack on the academy is wonderfully thrilling.  Just seeing such a familiar area of that magnitude is in complete chaos.  Even the Omega Ranger who leads the cadets into defending the academy are too overwhelmed by Broodwing's forces.  Anyway, even tho Kat and Boom are captured by Broodwing, she STILL managed to send the rangers their zords as well as the Omega Ranger to take on A Squad.  Too bad the Delta Squad Megazord and Omegamax Megazord get completely owned in battle as not only do the ranegrs have to fight A Squad but contend with Broodwing who has complete control of the academy by using the Delta Command Megazord to attack the rangers.  Be blasted relentlessly by both sides, the Delta Squad Megazord is complete destroy....damn!!! O_o  Meanwhile, Cruger is being held in a cage while Grumm prepares him for the takeover of Earth.  but not before reminding him of when Cruger sliced his horn and reveals he took something from him that day, as one of the robots from his forces bring in Insinia.  As Cruger is shocked by the truth of her being alive, the rangers come out of ruble of their megazord and wonder what they can do next.  bridge does his weird routine that Kat must have sent the S.W.A.T. Flyers to secret underground zord holding bay....HUH??!  Ok, I guess...since it comes out of no where and gives the rangers a chance to get back in the fight.

Meanwhile, Boom manages to get RIC to free him and Kat from Broodwing's forces.  Kat quickly tries to cut off the power of the Delta Squad Megazord just as the rangers arrive to defeat A Squad and their zords.  After capturing them, the rangers immediately head to the academy as Broodwing loses control of the Delta Command and is forced to go back to the Command Center.  The rangers kick som serious a$$ as they storm the academy and destroy Broodwing's forces.  Soon Jack heads over to stop Broodwing while the other rangers take care of the rest of his forces.  We get an awesome but very brief fight in the Command Center between Jack and Broodwing before they both head outside for their final battle.  Soon the other rangers alongside the Omega Ranger to join Jack is defeating Broodwing and his three monsters,  The final stand of all 6 rangers against Broodwing is the kind of final battle that I wish we go more of this season.  Less explosions and more of seeing the impressive combat skills of rangers.  After defeating his monsters, the rangers use the KP cannon to trap Broodwing once and for all.  Soooo the rangers finally defeated Broodwing but Grumm still has Cruger.  Luckily, Piggy knows where he is....oh guys!!! :(  As soon as Piggy leads them into Grumm's trap, Grumm relieves himself and captures the 5 rangers with his forces.  As Grumm puts the rangers in Cruger's cell alongside him, Grumm prepares them for the worst that's yet to come ending Part 1.  Wow!! Ok, the A Squad confrontation make have been explosion porn (like most of this season!), the first half of the finale moves at such a fast paced but is so action packed, story heavy and satisfying that I can forgive it's weak points for sure. :)
