Season 13, Episode 34: Insomnia
"Insomnia"
Episode 34
Air Episode: October 28th, 2005
Well, this should be an easy episode to talk about I guess, being a clip show and all. At the same time, there isn't much to talk about cause most scenes are from episodes that have already aired, etc. I guess the most important thing we can take from the insomnia storyline is it gives the B Squad a chance to reflect and look back to see how much they have grown individually as well as a team. After hearing Cruger praising the A Squad and says he wonders if A Squad were still around if they would have defeated Grumm, the rangers spend most of the night self loathing how each of them are at fault because their own character flaws. How Jack and Z use to criminal, Sky's cockiness and stubbornness toward being the Red Ranger, Syd's self centered princess attitude and Bridge's....odd behavior despite being a great detective when it mattered to help the team figure something out to save the day! It really nice to see how far our heroes have come in over 30+ episodes and while a bit of who they originally were at the beginning of the season is there, it's nice to see the overwhelming maturity that has come with them throughout the season by becoming Earth's sudden underdog team of heroes to defend it from Grumm.
Meanwhile, on Grumm's ship, we continue right where we left off last episode as Mora runs for her life after witnessing whatever is in that room. Considering how creepy and evil little monster maker is, for something to make her THAT terrified really sets the stage for this mysterious higher power that Emperor Grumm is apparently serving in his plans of world domination. And this powerful TRUE big bad isn't a jock as it seamlessly make Mora one of his newest followers after Grumm traps her in the room with it. Hmmm, Omni is it....looks like a bunch of goofy a$$ CGI at the moment but here's hoping this quickly progresses into a MUCH better threat than so far.
Another stand out plot point of the episode is the rangers through their night of looking back, remember that Grumm originally blew up that planet from space in the pilot, so why is it taking him so long to do the same thing to Earth. We've known Grumm has been stealing major resources from Earth like diamonds, gold, plasma fuel, etc. and it's awesome seeing the rangers finally seeing putting the pieces together on what Grumm has truly been up to most of the season besides just threatening Earth. Soon Cruger stumbles upon the non-sleeping rangers as they are eager to tell him about their discovery...as well as what he said about A Squad. Of course, Cruger reassures them that they are Earth's only hope and have proven themselves to be more capable team than A Squad who got captured by Grumm...see guys, that's why you don''t assume something before hearing the entire conversation, guys. -_o So this episode, while light on plot besides setting things up for the last run of episodes, still is entertaining enough to warrant your viewing. We get to see the rangers seeing the growth of themselves as both individuals and a team since the beginning of the season, which they have sincerely earned of course. :)
Final Morph: C+
