Season 3, Episode 14: Obsession

"Obsession"
Episode 14
Air Date: February 18th, 2004

Well, so many of these meteor freaks have been after Lana already, why can't our leading man get in on the stalker fun by having his own love obsessed, superpowered psycho after him too??? Lol, all things considered, this was a delightful change of pace, of course, not for Clark unfortunately but the set up of him and Alicia meeting is great, especially how they both cover for each other when they both discover they have powers beyond anyone's awareness of them.  Not to mention, Alicia is quite gorgeous!!! Seriously, Sarah Carter (who I'm sure most know her from being the second Cicada from The Flash) is not only a looker but she gives such a chilling performance; making you fall in love with her as fast as Clark does, especially how writing make them both instantly so relatable and desperately wanting to share their love with someone they don't feel like a freak around.  Not to mention, Sarah and Tom have wonderful chemistry as he just lights up during his scenes with her.  You can definitely tell it was refreshing too him to pine after a new love interest instead of the dreaded Lana love storyline that has already felt exhausted up to this point. Jesus! Sigh....but like I said, Sarah is chilling in how she goes from that sweet girl new door who is opening up to her prince charming to a terrorizing teen bent on making Clark her soul mate by any means necessary including threatening him and nearly killing her father.  Yikes! O_O

As, he popping up in Clark's bed to share a hot make out session with him in the middle of the night! I mean....that scene is just beyond hott.  Sorry, but no wonder my teenage hormones began to flare up during watching shows like this since I was a teen at the time of the airing of this episode originally.  It's not just the the fact both actors are semi-nude and vulnerable but that once again, the chemistry between both actors is off the charts.  I wonder if they dated off screen! Wouldn't be surprised if she and Tom had a thang during the down time between days of shooting. lol But it really puts you in a really hard place (no pun intended! :P) as you really love Alicia as a character but she becomes too scary and oversteps her boundaries in ways where you can't wait until Clark stops her for good.  But did the writers have to wrap things up with her going after Lana??? I mean this is Clark's stalker and she ends up trying to kill Lana in the end like so many meteor freaks before! Ewwwwww! But the sequence of Clark spraying the led paint onto Alicia was messed up and nicely shot.  I really felt bad for her. :( She clearly was just so driven by her isolation and loneliness that she snapped and became extremely fixated on Clark. I'm just glad this won't be the last time we she her tho....more on that next season! ;)

In sub-plot world, Adam is growing more creepy by the episode as Lana discovers she's been spying on Clark and Lana, apparently it's the reason why she got so close to Lana in the first place.  But before we get to that haunting scene, most of the episode sees Lana and Lex trying their best to get rid off the menacing guest but ultimately it isn't Lex who drives Adam away.  Seems Lionel has been the one behind Adam's resurrection and now wants to leave Adam for dead since he has seemingly alienated her with his terrifying behavior.  If using Adam to get information on Clark wasn't bad enough, that last scene is beyond chilling with Lionel and Dr. Teng just leaving Adam to die instead of giving him more of the serum that is keeping him alive.  Just a shocking and twisted cliffhanger that leaves you so anticipated for more to come.  "Obsession", for the most part is pretty excellent, even if the final confrontation is Lana in peril from a meteor freak as usual.  The story with Clark and Alicia is well written and realized while the progression of Adam's story grows more sinister and intriguing but I'm glad he's not an outright bad guy and more of a pawn of a greater evil that is Daddy Luthor! :)

Final Kryptonite: B+
