Season 2, Episode 22: Calling
"Calling"
Episode 22
Air Date: May 13th, 2003
All I can say is FI-NAH-LY!!!! Took them 2 seasons, but finally we've reach the point where Clark and Lana put all that unnecessary, relentless, grotesque angst behind them and get their high school sweetheart romance underway. The opening scene was actually incredible sweet with Lana coming to surprise Clark on his "birthday" with a birthday cake. Awwwwww, this is all soapy and lovey dovey and THEY KISS!!! Yay! Maybe now we won't have to spend another say....5 seasons and 5 episodes more of Clark and Lana's relationship back and forth non-sense!!!?? ....Hahahahaha.....ehhhhhh!!! Anyway, of course, nothing can be simple with these "teenagers" and the next day Lana's all ready to jump ship and it doesn't help that they are keeping it a secret from Chloe the Special Demontor!!! -_- She picks up on it and now all three of them look upset....ewwwww!!! I just....anyway, Lex and Helen's wedding is just around the corner and Lex decides to make the Kents seat with him at his rehearsal dinner...since his dad wasn't invited. Ouch! Poor Lionel....and then you realize he deserves it considering the evils he's been doing behind the scenes the past two seasons and especially from here on out! O_O Funny how Helen isn't that bothered by Lex's invitation of the Kents for their wedding festivities, especially given...you know....he's clearly obsessed with them in the most demented sort of way. O_o But I guess her wanting Lex to resolve things with his father prior to the wedding is reasonable considering she loves him and wants him to be happy??? But it's not only Helen who might be hiding things from Lex as after the couple discover someone trashed and broke into her office, the suspects could be Lex or even Jonathan when she confronts him about the vile of Clark's blood being taken. Gotta give Jonathan his props for pointing out (and it turning out to be) clearly Lex when he pushes her trust in her future husband.
Well let's take a break from the relationship drama and talk about Dr. Waldon waking up from his bizarre coma to become some energy projecting psycho that is after Clark when he escapes the facility he's been held for observation. Not only is he able to write the cave symbols aka the Kryptonian language but is able to tap into the cave wall with the octagonal disc shape and rearrange them in preparation to stopping Clark. Apparently as Clark discovers all this, in a very tense scene between him and Lex at said facility, it seems "The time is coming for the last son to accept his destiny and rule the third planet from the son." Which is no surprise when these Kryptonian messages are so cryptic and can be easily misinterpreted by Clark who this is all meant for. Also, Clark seems to hearing a faint voice calling out to him randomly during one scene....hmmmmmm..... Leads to a shocking confrontation between the delusional Dr. and Clark where he attempts to kills Clark with his new power but ends up accidentally blowing himself up. Sigh.....when it comes to this show and action scenes....the Arrowerse has spoiled this generation with actual ones. It's like they have all this budget for VFX but not for a decent fight choreographer??? O_o
Back to the Dramaville, as Chloe is confronted by Lionel again as he wants her to investigate Clark thoroughly in exchange for him giving her a column at the Daily Planet. In a startling moment of actually acting like a person with a soul, Chloe realizes Lionel is using her to get to him and puts him down to protect Clark.....awwwww.....isn't that nice??? :) Yet once Chloe sees Clark and Lana finally consemating their new relationship at the barn....she begins to cry and run off.....ohhhhh this won't be good and will lead to the worst thing she's ever done as a so called friend!!! -_- *Blood boil* Also after a touching rehearsal dinner, serenaded by Clark's best man speech, Helen begins to have reservations about Lex, especially after finding a confidential file on Martha he has had since "Fever" and Lionel being there to stir the pot between them! Like I said, it's not like Lex is innocent and it will be interesting to see what happens as it seems he will tell Helen he in fact stole the blood. Sooooo yeah, things aren't looking great, especially when the season finale next. Lionel is still suspicious and looking for answers when he asks the coroner for Dr. Waldon's hand since he was clearly holding the octagonal disc when he did. Seriously, John Glover was truly frightening with his gleeful delivery of "the hand" when the nurse asks him "send what to you?" Creepy!!! Such a charismatic villain he is for the show so far! And it's only gonna get even more dark and compelling next season! Yay. Not to mention, while Clark and Lana are officially an item and moved based their doubts and reservations....Clark gets called by that faint voice again, which leads him to the storm cellar where a bright light piercing his face as he goes down there. A brilliant set up, even if most the episode felt a bit slow in parts. Definitely makes the season finale look like A LOT is about to happen, especially with Clark's main storyline this season of his origins coming ahead. Nice! :)
