Season 18, Episode 19: Broken Dreams
"Broken Dreams"
Episode 19
Air Date: October 1st, 2011
I guess we should be lucky that the out of nowhere advancement in Dayu's past and personal character turmoil was featured in an episode that essentially nothing special, even with the various other dreams that the rangers find themselves they are in. But before that, poor Dayu is punished by Xandred for apparently not destroying Deker last episode when she was suppose too. I guess that's why she was spying on him but didn't really pay attention clearly. It's hard to with this show! o_o Anyway, her poor harmonium is damaged by Xandred as she cries over it and reminisces about the significance of it. She ends up in the real world, she begins to cause chaos and plans to kidnap a street performer until Mia sees the attack and morphs to take her down. Unfortunately, she's not the only Nighlok up to trouble as Xandred has sent Rhinosnorus (As usual!) to put the people of.......city -_-....to sleep; leading the other 4 rangers sans Antonio to assist. As Dayu takes the moment to take the street performer, Mia follows her while Jayden tells Emily to follow her to help. During the fight, Antonio shows up....unmorphed for some reason and is made to sleep by the monster as well as a nearby group of people....including Bulk and Spike. Rhinosnorus quickly jumps into a portal to his dream dimension and the rangers have to find a way to stop him or he will consume the people in their dreams which will stop them from waking up.....FOREVER!!! Well according to Ji anyway!
Meanwhile, Dayu and Mia are fighting in the forest as Rhinosnorus exits the dream dimension and puts everyone to sleep. After an awkward moment of Dayu and Mia rolling down a hill together, we see inside Mia's dream where she is preparing a large meal for a table of guests....before she is some how transported into Dayu's dream. Like I said, this is the most interesting and emotional aspect of the season so far as we see her and Deker's backstory play out again in her dream. They were both married and gave each other their sword and harmonium as gifts. But one night, a deadly fire that nearly killed both of them, put Deker in critical condition; leading to a mysterious Nighlok to arriving and offering Dayu a deal to save his life before he dies. The deal of course is a double cross and not only does he trick Dayu to giving up her humanity to become a Nighlok, but he puts the curse on Deker where he will be half Nighlok/half human forever and will never remember his past aka Dayu. A heartbreaking turn of events that actually makes me sympathetic toward her and Deker. Clearly like I said, the most interesting thing going on this season by far.
Back to the main plot, after Jayden uses his symbol power to bring Kevin and Mike to the dream world to stop Rhinosnorus, we get the dream sequences played mostly for unfunny laughs like Bulk being a Samurai and Antonio claiming an large award for catching the biggest fish....WOW! O_O Anyway, Mike and Kevin morph and manage to get Rhino Nighlok back to the real world to destroy his organ that puts people to sleep; leading to everyone waking everyone. But even after Antonio wakes up and helps a weakened Jayden to head home, the city is being attacked by an army of large Moogers and Mouth Nighlok thingys! O_O Even tho Jayden is somehow so weakened by using his symbol power to get the others to the dream world, he morphs alongside Antonio to summon their individual zords to defeat them. Unfortunately, the episode ends with a cliffhanger which I'm sure won't even make any difference in the finale. After Mia tries to sympathize with Dayu about her past but just strikes down poor Emily instead, Deker randomly shows up for his ultimate duel with Jayden...which Jayden accepts even tho he is clearly not at full strength, what the hell???!!! -_-
Final Morph: D+
