Season 10, Episode 19: The Tornado Spin
"The Tornado Spin"
Episode 19
Air Date: June 15th, 2002
So, what I found most enjoyable about this episode are 2 things. 1) The fact we get to delve deeper in Max's personality as well as personal triumphs and lows to take a deeper look into the character and 2) the plot of the episode reminded me of older Power Rangers like "The Curve Ball" from Turbo where T.J. had to learn how to hit a curve ball to defeat Strike Out (How I remember his name just shows you how much Power Rangers I've been watching recently! lol) It's just always nice seeing an individual ranger using a certain skill they have, learned or need to learn in order to defeat the monster of the week. Bowling Org was quite the tough Org this week and I really enjoy how literally overpowered he was in the most ridiculous way as he was able to strike out all 6 rangers like bowling pins. It leads Max to come up with an idea to defeat that Org at a Bowling alley he use to bowl at. Earlier in the episode, we learn Max was a pro bowler and it's here we learn that a bowling legend named Don took him under his wing as his prodigy. Unfortunately, Max had to give that all up when his calling as a ranger came to him one night when one of the former Orgs the rangers destroyed was attacking helpless women. As Max decided to defend them, the Org turn his attack to him but luckily, Alyssa and Taylor were there to save him. As they ask if he's ok, his animal crystal grows as they discover he is their newest recruit. Once again, I'm baffled how they treat Max like some 12 year old boy when he's clearly a freakin' teenager but whatever! -_-
After Max gave up bowling to join the team, Don became a janitor of the bowling alley after hurting his wrist. When Max begs Don to teach him the Tornado Spin, he's resentful and disappointed at Max for quitting. Love how Cole tries coming to Max defense by saying the other rangers will make it up to him like Taylor organizing the place and Alyssa cooking for him. But when he comes to Danny, apparently, he's....only good for shinning his bowling balls. LOL All I'm saying this is just highlighting the good, bad and yet to be defined character attributes of each ranger this season. Anyway, as Max continues to train himself on how to do the Tornado Spin, he almost breaks his wrist, forcing Don to finally believe him and help him out.
Meanwhile, Merrick is handling the Bowling Org on his own and is getting his ass owned just as Max figures out the Tornado Spin with Don even giving him his lucky Bowling ball for luck. After Merrick is done, Max goes head to head with Bowling Org and defeats him with the Tornado Spin. As the other rangers arrive, they all combine their weapons to form the Jungle Sword as well as Merrick uses his Lunar Cube finisher. After destroying the Org together, Uber Toxica (Yup I'm gonna call her new version that) makes him grow and I love how she doesn't add the unnecessary "HAH" at the end of it. -_- So he grows and all 6 rangers soon call their legion of Wild Zords! Seriously they summon like 8 of those things, mind you there are like 6 more on the Animarium...Jesus! Zord overload! But luckily, the Wild Force Megazord and Predazord are no match for the bowling Org's powerful strike as he knocks each of them out. Jesus! Watching the megazord break apart like that was brutal as well as the rangers being thrown out. So they are kind of screwed and can form each megazord but they think fast and get the idea to form a new megazord. With the Alligator Wildzord down, the rangers form the Wild Force Megazord: Predator Mode with the Hammer Head and Wolf attached. They also summon the Armadillo to use a bowling ball to perform the Tornado Spin which works and destroys the Bowling Org once and for all.
The episode ends with Max and Don continuing to reconcile as he teaches a whole new generation of kids how to bowl. Also, I LOVE the beginning training fight between Uber Jindrax and Uber Toxica just cause of how intense and well choreographed it was. Master Org just standing there like boss watching his brainwashed minions beat the crap out of each was just s enjoyable for me! :) Anyway, pretty solid episode none the less. I enjoy digging into Max's pre-ranger past and exploring a lesson about never giving up that wasn't so forced from this show! :)
