Season 9, Episode 13: Warrior
"Warrior"
Episode 13
Air Date: February 10th, 2010
On paper, Warrior almost feels like an origin story of Billy Batson aka Shazam! but it's really a fun filler that explores the world of fandom as during Metropolis' annual Wonder Con, the characters are surrounded by fans of comics, superheroes and all things geeky; leaving each of them feeling specific about the whole thing. Lois surprisingly loves the idea of playing along and losing yourself in a world of fantasy every now and then, but Clark of course, being an actual hero that saves people on daily basis thinks people are treating it like a fantasy when they have no idea how serious it is. A very deep, realistic look on what being a superhero would be like despite the many fans at these cons glamorizing it like it would be a dream come true. Insert Alan Abrams, a small boy looking to get the rarest, first edition of Warrior Angel and after stealing, is transformed in Stephen Swift aka Warrior Angel himself. Honestly, I think my biggest problem with this story is....well.....Chloe! -_- I'm sorry but this episode did her absolutely no favors, especially after Stephen saves her life and she starts falling for him. Ummmmm, the fact that is a pre-teen boy in a grown man's body.....ummmmm EWWWWWW much!!??? O_O And Chloe just takes it upon herself to get to know this new hero personally because Lois telling her she needs to find romance and live life again!
It just doesn't make sense that Chloe doesn't immediately find out who this guy is via Watchtower or even tell Clark about it!??? Then again, she's always hiding things from him since like late last season so maybe this is completely in character. But it all feels so forced and icky....tho, Carlos Marks does an excellent job capturing the essence of a 10-12 year old boy.....which makes it even creepier that Chloe at one point thinks they're going to sleep together. OMG!!! *Vomit becomes intense* Not to mention, him realizing he can fly and goes on a romantic flight around the city with Chloe like they're freakin' Superman and Lois??!?? *Vomit intensifies* -_- On the other end of the story, Zatanna returns and while Clark helps her track down the boy who stole the comic, since it was cursed by her father and she needs to reverse it, she puts a little spell on Clark to get him to live out his fantasy...which ends up having him make out with Zatanna. Cue Lois picking up on this and not having ANY of it. Lol these two continue to pull their scenes off like its clockwork and I love how Lois makes Clark painfully yet hilariously jealous at the end just so they are even and he remembers how that felt. HA!!!
But Alec/Stephen story gets a turn for the worst when Chloe decides to once again, NOT tell Clark or Zatanna about this and handle this on her own, Stephen turns from hero to villain since in this version of the comic, Warrior Angel becomes the evil Devilicus instead of his heroic self after feeling betrayed. Luckily, both Clark and Zatanna still manage to figure everything out as she reverses the spell and Clark saves Chloe from hitting the streets of Metropolis harder than that kiss Lois gave that intern! Seriously, LOL! But I enjoyed how they tied the story in with Alec just looking to be a hero like the Blur to escape his troubled life by Clark inspiring him to do what's right from now on. I even loved the drawing he made of Clark as the Red Blue Blur! Awwwwww, Superman has always especially such a positive role model to kids and I'm glad Smallville found time to show that. There's nothing left to say....I said there's nothing left to say........sigh.....FINE! There's this last scene between Chloe and Oliver where she's drinking and he teaches her how to shoot a bow. All this sexual tension....ummmm yuck! I just.....NO! Why them together!??? O_O Then again, their both cold blooded murders that found the worst excuses to cover up why they did such insanity so maybe that actually.......O_o Anyway, Warrior is equal parts entertaining with Lois sporting a Wonder Woman outfit while geeks leer at her (lol) and disappointing (Chloe leering at a grown man's pecs and abs when he's really like 11! YIKES! O_O)
