Season 26, Episode 8: The Cybergate Opens
"The Cybergate Opens"
Episode 8
Air Date: April 27th, 2019
Hmmmmm, a two for the price of one ranger introductions in this episode (which I believe hasn't happened since RPM with also a Silver and Gold duo of new rangers!) Last episode left us with the hanging story development of Scrozzle in the middle of building a Cybergate for Evox to eventually go through to make it to our world and begin draining the power of the Morphin' Grid. Here we learn tho in detail that for the gate to work, Scrozzle needs a robotic vessel for Evox to inhabit with only Nate being the one capable of building one strong enough to sustain the might of Evox. As far as villain plans go, the Cybergate is fine by allowing Nate to be put center stage for an episode, especially when he is setting out to prove he can take care of himself despite the nagging rule of him needing to be protected outside of Grid Battleforce at all times. Luckily, while examining other types of animal DNA, he manages to copy the DNA of a praying mantis and beetle...before the rangers are called off to stop a new Robotron while Blaze and Roxy put the next phase of Scrozzle's plan in motion by kidnapping Nate when he stubbornly stays behind when he should have returned back to Grid Battleforce. With Nate now at the mercy of the villains, it's time for him to use his genius intellect to good use and figure out a way out of there as well as stopping Evox from being unleashed upon their world.
Of course, while Nate tries to come up with a way to outsmart the enemies, Ben and Betty manage to to do something smart for once as their tracer lands in the back of one of the Robotrons; leading the rangers to where Nate is being held. Unfortunately, the Robotron attacks as soon as they try to make their move and save him; leading to a battle between them. Back inside, as Nate finishes up his robot and the Tronics set it up at the gate, Scrozzle uses the stolen neuro aligners that Ravi gave to Roxy to connect Evox to the robot's body as Evox begins to make his way through the gate. Luckily, Nate manages to use his communicator to summon a new weapon he had been working on earlier and uses it to stop the joining process between Evox and the robot. Seizing the opportunity to put the robot and neural aligners to good use, he fuses himself with the robot as well as the DNA of the beetle and mantis to turn himself as well as the robot into the new Gold and Silver Rangers respectively. In traditional new ranger introduction fashion, both rangers proceed to kick the collective a$$es of both Blaze and Roxy after Scrozzle manages to escape the chaos. After owning the two avatars (Yeah, you two aren't looking so great in battle are you??? O_o lol), the two rangers join the core trio to hold off the Robotron while a Gigadrone is unleashed on the city to steal more Morph X from a tower.
Can I just say the Gold and Silver Ranger suits are stunning! Looking alot more refined and polished than the primary colored originals. :) Even the robot (Soon to be named "Steel" ;) has a real cool looking design to him, not to mention his smug, overly charming personality makes him an immediate stand out from the other 4 rangers. So he is apparently half robot/half human as he also shares Nate's DNA (Which is both cool and bizarre at the same time honestly! O_o lol) But it does open up a lot more potential story threads for the future! Nate has been so adamant about wanting a big brother and it seems like getting one finally in Steel might be far more than he bargained for; already wanting to steal the spotlight from Nate and a bit too eager to show off. Can't wait to see where this goes honestly??? Also it appears Evox wants his robot body still as Scrozzle has the Tronix fix the Cybergate as the villains plan to get their hands on the new Silver Ranger!!! GASP!!! Overall, "The Cybergate Opens" is extremely heavy on story and plot progression that may seem a bit too fast paced for its own good, but it makes for an exciting episode in terms of turning events that sees the status quo shaken up with two new rangers as well as progression Nate's personal arc of having his own family. Not bad at all. Keep it up Beast Morphers! :P
