Season 5, Episode 20: Fade
"Fade"
Episode 20
Air Date: April 27th, 2006
....This season.....SUCKS!!! I'm sorry but there's no need to sugarcoat things now that the show has become so directionless when the first half seemed to have a point and purpose. It's like once Jonathan died, the show's overall plot and point has begun to quickly spiral downhill. It's funny because even the characters are becoming aware of how much of a loser Clark has become. Even after threatening Lionel last week, Clark continues to just stay on the farm and do absolutely nothing with his life; especially since breaking up with Lana that Chloe has to force him out of the house to actually be somewhat proactive. Like I remember, this season and the next 2 are worst for Clark as a character and considering we're mainly following his journey, that is an absolute NO NO!!! I don't know what to talk about first because nothing about this episode is pleasing or even bit entertaining or relevant...I guess if you count Lex randomly talking to Dr. Fine online about a certain virus or whatever is going on with that plot that has gone little to no real movement. Seriously, what is going on with Fine, the ship and Lex's agenda with him! We get a small moment of Lex and Lana talking about Fine and his legitimacy as a government operative but it's literally so relevant at this point. Such an immense waste of James Masters, my god! Ehhhhhhh!!! -_-
I'll just talk about Graham aka the invisible hitman who Clark saves and goes psycho on Lex because Clark babbles about his ex being with him. Yes, Clark finally finds out about Lana and Lex's disgusting coupling and it's made even worse by his reaction. I'm sorry but are the writers really trying to make us HATE Clark because this is by far the most aggravating it's been watching and listening to him talk about Lana. Dude, YOU broke her heart! YOU pushed her away....a second time no less!!! And now you're made at Chloe because she didn't tell you she's dating Lex now!!??? It doesn't even matter if it's Lex, if you really cared about the girl you step aside and be done with her. Now he's all adamant about telling Lana how dangerous Lex is and does his whole pathetic, hurt farm boy routine when he told her he didn't have feelings for her anymore. Are you kidding me!? That last scene is the worst I have ever seen Clark act. He is a selfish coward who expects Lana to act the way he wants even when he doesn't want to be with her and Lana had every right to shut him down about him warning her about Lex. He broke her heart and pretty much led her right into Lex's arms and now it seems like he's already regretting it?!!! Oh God, please kill me!
Anyway, back to this repetitive transparent meteor freak plot since it doesn't add anything new that Shimmer back during the first season didn't do better. At least there was a mystery the first time around but Graham is just a creepy jerk from the get go who is revealed to be the hitman who can never be seen. Once again, Clark comes in for a last minute save only this time is clearly hurt that Lana thanks Lex for saving her while he's the one who actually did. I....I.....I just feel bad for Tom! I sure when he signed up for Smallville, he has no idea that such a legendary character he was fortunate enough to play would turn into this tactless jerk who can't let go and has no point to the sorry besides randomly saving people because the writers need to stick to this being a superhero origin show. BAH!!! Then there's Lois who becomes quickly involved with Graham and ends up get her heartbroken just as fast. Cue foreshadowing of Lois' future love life being with someone special aka tall, dark and Clarkie as Martha knows she'll find the right one some day. Yeah, why couldn't some day be sooner rather than later, seriously! Fade is about as unnecessary as an episode of this show gets. Oversaturated with relationship drama that should have ended during the teen years but even as adults, these characters, especially Clark seem to be unable to grow the hell up! At least Chloe continues to be progressing as a reporter with her own front page byline and putting Clark in his place about his hypocrisy toward Lana. Thank You! God, now I love Chloe more than Clark right now, which is saying A LOT about how insufferable the show is beginning to become. Sigh.....:(
