Season 5, Episode 15: Cyborg
"Cyborg"
Episode 15
Air Date: February 16th, 2006
Well, it's yet another DC hero intro episode and it's none other than the Teen Titan/Justice League fan favorite, Victor Stone aka Cyborg! Sigh....it's hard watching an episode with the late Lee Thompson Young in action and it will be moving forward as I continue re-watching the series. Such an incredible handsome and charismatic actor! Not to mention, him coming off the immense success of the Disney's Channel The Famous Jett Jackson definitely shows how in shape and amazing he is at those action scenes! I really believed him as a former football player turned humanoid machine! Certainly makes Tom Welling look a bit out of shape in comparison is all I'm saying, DAMN!!! But seriously, it's not only his tremendous athleticism, but Lee gives an outstanding performance as the trouble teen dealing with his post-resurrection woes after being killed in a car accident and dealing with life as half human/half robot hybrid. There's a genuine nuance to his acting that felt so real and not needing to be over the top. He just has this quiet strength about him that is just as impressive as his bionic endoskeleton is all I'm saying...again! :) Can't you just tell I'm smitten over Victor just as much as that hilarious scene of Chloe wanting to know more about the mysteriously sexy super stud???? :P
Of course, they have to bring a romance story in for him that's parallels to Clark and Lana aka his girlfriend Catherine who he would do anything to see but is afraid of telling her the truth about her. ..........I mean at this point even the writers seem baffled and beyond exhausted by this story as even moments of Clark and Lana talking about Victor and Catherine's relationship just show the sheer redundancy and repetitive misery that these two ALWAYS find themselves in when dating each other. Even they're last...ONCE again shows Clark just can't open up to her and Lana just pretty much stays "Typical! There he goes again! Will this ever end???" Honestly, it. SHOULD!!! High school is over and this torturous love story is becoming beyond tired and obsessive, it's bringing the show down and making Clark look more and more incompetent. Almost like he enjoys suffering and his last line to Lana shows the inevitable is coming VERY soon....they just aren't meant to be! The writers know this yet......the showrunners want to drag this to the ends of the Earth and back!!! AHHHHHHH..... *Breathes...inhales....exhales....puts sharp object down before poking myself in the eye!* -_-
Anyway, Lex has been involved or rather Luthorcorp with syntechnics, the company that took Victor's body and made him enhanced. I love how the writers are playing with Lex's dark side as it unexpectedly shows itself more and more. Lex is just becoming so smug and untrustworthy, it's actually awesome and kind of scary. Clark has every right to feel that way and just dismiss his altruism despite they're past. Lex even admits that he played a part in recapturing Victor and how the ends justify the means to Clark in the end. There's always been a HUGE line of distrust between these two for good reason and it's nice to see that Clark has been right about Lex all along as Lex becomes more obsessed with doing evil things for the right reasons. Very deep and complex! At least the writers are making the friendship turned rivalry between a pre-Superman and his greatest foe well written so far and extremely convincing. In sub-plot news, Martha is already dealing with the ramifications of taking Jonathan's Senate seat; leaving Lionel to swoop in and save the day for her. While it's a bit uneasy to see Martha befriending Lionel of all people, she is so vulnerable and as strong as she's being, even she knows she needs a powerful ally in her position like Lionel. A friendship yes, but one she sees she needs instead of wants. I hate to say it, she has good instincts as Lionel quickly handles the situation with the blackmailer....and finally reveals in a chilling last scene that he does in fact know Clark's secret! WOW! It's just wonderful to get confirmation for something that I'm sure MANY were speculating since Jor-El took over his body and it will be interesting to see where this finally leads. Cyborg manages to tell a solid superhero origin story with its titular character and exposes more of Lex's morally gray ways in his progression to embrace his menacing destiny. It also moves some overall plot points along by answering some unanswered questions from earlier in the season that hopefully have some major pay off before the 5th year of the show ends!
