Season 5, Episode 18: Fragile

"Fragile"
Episode 18
Air Date: April 13th, 2006

You know I'm all for a sentimental meteor freak storyline where Clark befriends and even mentors a young girl who is being falsely accused of being a glass shattering murder (And yes, seriously!) but this is episode 18! Now should be the time to be building on the Fine storyline with the spaceship and whatever he's doing hunting down multiple viruses for.  But nope! Let's just continue with more filler, because that's what this show needs more of right now....FILLER!!! Maddie is a sweet girl and actress Emily Hirst does a fine job in the role even if Maddie can come off a bit irritating and annoying at times when she starts talking.  She has nice chemistry with Clark but sometimes I feel like this storyline is a bit forced because.....I'm sorry, the power to shatter and control glasses doesn't exactly send shivers down my spine or make be view Maddie and especially her father as a threat when it turns out he's been the one killing people around her.  I think it's because Clark is literally indestructible and can break concrete like butter....so glass powered foe seems beyond laughable.  I mean even the final confrontation between Clark and Maddie's dad is resolved so quickly by Clark just using his heat vision to destroy a shard of glass that is against his mother's neck.  It's just so laughable, especially when Maddie's dad is about to you all this shattered glass to attack Clark. I just....Clark can stop him without even breaking a sweat literally......without even really using his powers in a strenuous way! He tossed Maddie's father like a ragdoll across the room a couple scenes ago and now we're suppose to be fearful of him going up against Clark?!?? O_O  .....Slow day in the writers room huh???

If that wasn't bad enough.....oh boy......sighs........Lana and Lex's friendship takes a serious turn for the stomach turning when Chloe catches the too getting comfortable in her and Lana's dorm room.  Poor Chloe, having to be put in the middle of craptastic storyline of Lana being manipulated and fooled into falling for Lex.  That scene in the mansion when she confronts Lex about coming on to Lana is beyond harsh with insults that even made me want to reach into the screen and kick his a$$! Jesus Lex, how is Lana NOT seeing this.  Honestly, the writers are doing a terrible job with Lana herself; making us feel she is completely aware of her non-feelings for Lex by confronting Chloe at the Daily Planet all frustrated and shutting down any inclination of them ever being more than friends.....only for the episode to ending with the most vomit inducing lip look between the two as Lana apparently gives into her feelings for Lex.  I have never felt so disgusted after an episode of this show! Lex smiling so menacing as his plan to win Lana has worked after Lana runs off after a kiss that feels colder than frostbite! O_O It just makes her look so naive and dumb; making Chloe's accusations ring true in Lana being manipulated after a seriously gut-wrenching breakup that Lex wanted! I know it's suppose to make Lex look so evil and cold but it just makes Lana feel like an unnecessary puzzle piece just cause more conflict between Lex and Clark that's based on a mutual love interest than genuine distrust and hatred based on their opposing destinies. This storyline just reeks of desperation for melodrama and conflict that once again makes the show feel drowned in sorrow and soap opera styled theatrics.  Ehhhhwwww!!!

Of course, Clark wants to know what's up with Lana...even tho he wants her to be happy! He asks Chloe if she's found anyone new and it just pisses me off because you let her go now all of sudden you want to know about her love life!??? Why do the writers refuse to let Clark truly let go of this girl!??? Nothing and I mean nothing is going on in his life besides.....Lana..... O_O Lois is appointed Chief of Staff by Martha, Martha's the new state senator, Lex and Lana are working on the mysterious of the spaceship, Chloe's working at the Daily Planet, etc.  Clark is just a college dropout with pathetic relationship issues at this point.  What happened to Jor-El and the Fortress!????  At least do something with the set besides Clark occasionally going there to yell at Terrance Stamp's ADR! GAH!!!! Fragile is just overall forgettable and so inconceivably irrelevant besides the fact that now we have to witness the sheer horror of Lex and Lana getting together! Ewwwwww!!! -_-
