Season 20, Episode 7: Who's Crying Now?

"Who's Crying Now?"
Episode 7
Air Date: March 16th, 2013

Once again, it feels like there isn't much of a story to talk about and I'm starting to realize that this show is just a bunch of meandering original footage between MANY Sentai fight scenes.  Now the fight scenes in Sentai are amazing and there's nothing bad about them...it's just some substantial context for said fight scenes was being used.  I mean the foundation for this episode is just so stupid and doesn't feel like it's telling a story but more of shoehorning a moral lesson that doesn't make sense by the end of the episode.  So there are some bullies in school that are giving Troy a hard time.  They're no Bulk and Skull but they are there to apparently prove a point as....Troy can't cry as they bully and make fun of him....... oh boy!  O_O  Another reason this episode doesn't work is...Andrew Grey....how is it that he can keep such a straight face during the majority of his scenes and conveying less emotion than your average IPhone??? O_o  Oh my god....how can you even take this seriously when Troy can't even convey basic human traits??? His face literally NEVER moves, almost like he's treating the material as a joke but clearly no one on set was giving this guy ANY kind of direction.  Thank god for that man's incredibly pretty face because it may have got him the job but a pretty face means nothing if emotional expression is impossible for said character.  God, and I thought Alex Heartman was awful as Jayden last season but at least Jayden could emote and show some forms of expressions outside of generic stoicism.  Troy looks like he doesn't even have a soul by how blank his face is.  I think Jennifer Yen has finally found some competition as the worst actor this show has ever seen! WOW!

Oh and then there's this plot with the kid that Troy defends from the bullies.  Suddenly when Creepox randomly attacks said bullies, the kid stands up to Creepox because he's being a bully....ummm there's a difference between bullying and god fearing terror from a monster that can easily destroy you because it wants to! O_O  And it's all because of Troy inspiring the kid to stand up to bullies and this whole "standing up to bullies" theme surrounding the story moving forward.  Suddenly, the rangers are treating Creepox like a bully and Troy won't shut up about "Do you see any tears?"  A line that would actually be badass and woudln't mind them repeating if Andrew didn't deliver it with the emotional intensity of lamp! -_-  This was suppose to be this big showdown between Creepox and the rangers.  One of the main generals and the fight is treated with least amount of stakes and resonance than any PR fight before it. Then Troy is the only one who can defeat Creepox and use his anger to make him weaker which apparently works....HUH??? Oh whatever!

Troy destroys Creepox but Vrak makes him grow with his Zombats and the rangers summon their Gosei zords to form the Gosei Great Megazord! Unfortunately, Creepox, being a general and not a mere monster of the week, is too powerful....sigh....leaving the rangers to be saved by Gosei by telling them it's time to create the Ultra Gosei Great Megazord aka the Ultrazord.......*headdesk*.  I mean I feel like what's the point of the rangers losing when they are always said by a new zord or new formation out of nowhere.  I mean where's the real challenge??? Where's the real stakes here?? Creepox is just easily defeated now and problem solved! oh Please and now the two bullies are treating the kid so well and the other rangers thank Troy for that??? Ummm....ok....let's just give him all the credit because Troy is so cool under pressure and doesn't cry!!! Ohhhh my god.....I just.....next episode! *Headdesk*
