Season 17, Episode 5: Handshake

"Handshake"
Episode 5
Air Episode: March 28th, 2009

One could say this is definitely more of a comedic episode given the hilarious hijinks of it on both sides but seriously, the writers seem to be having a ball with these characters both heroes and mentor as well as big bad and generals.  After a priceless macho match between Scott and Dillon about their cars, Summer has to yell at them to tone it down sine Dr. K is calling Dillon for training.  Meanwhile, back at the lair of Doom, all 3 of Venjix's generals stand by as he unveils his new Attackbot or rather Generation 9 Noz Bot Attack System! Now say that 10 times fast and try breathing at the same time.  O_O Unfortunately, with Venjix's new creation, one of his generals must go since they are being replace by newer technology and I love how the other two generals back away as Venjix points out Tenaya is obsolete for her failure to get the Series Green morpher.  I like the generals so far by the way, Crunch and especially Shifter are silly enough to be funny without being too annoying and Tenaya making fun of how ridiculous the monsters on this show can be by calling Venjix's latest creation, "giant bottle window cleaner" is beyond awesome and about time!!! LOL Luckily, Tenaya is a supreme lady badass as usual and kicks the a$$es of the Grinders as they try to destroy her.  Venjix is impressed and allows her to live only if she is able to lower the surrounds walls of Corinth for a full on attack.  Unfortunately, General Crunch steps in and mentions one of them has to go before Venjix quickly blasts and destroys him.  Awww man, I liked Crunch and they're already getting destroyed??? :(  But Shifter was right about him walking into that tho! Ha! :)

Back in the lab, Dr. K is scolding Dillon as usual while he gives the voice a hard time about being too impersonal since you know....mysterious voice on a monitor is hard to trust, even with this kind of technology. Which is true since it makes it seem that this Dr. K may not be the ally they truly think who he or she is when they have so much to hide in terms of their identity.  Anyway, apparently before Dillon can harness his zord that will upgrade the megazord, he needs to master his invincibility force field which he can't because according to Dr. K, he isn't believing enough in the technology.  Wait....so the special suit powers can't work if the rangers don't believe in its power??? O_O  What is this? The Mystic Force School of Magic Contrivance?!!! Anyway, as Dillon finally gives in and Dr. K tests his shield.....he just gets blasted by a large ray gun out of nowhere.  Even when Dillon tries to skip more training with Dr. K, she has the ray gun come out of the fridge when he's about to get something and gets blasted again. I just....this show is priceless!!! But Dillon does bring up a great point about Dr. K as the others seemingly obey her every command without actually knowing who he or she really is. Good thing for the rangers, they wouldn't have to wait for that identity reveal much longer. :)

Anyway, Tenaya 7 is attacking the city with an army of Grinders which leaves the rangers to confront them and morph.  During the fight, we get our first unmorphed fight this season before they each morph. Dillon gets into a rematch with Tenaya as she once again, is able to outfight him again.  Dr. K quickly suggests his force field, but once again, Dillon can'r master it and continues to get punch around by Tenaya.  Soon the main three use their Road blaster (the usual combination of the individual weapons) to blast her away.  But instead of being seemingly defeated, Tenaya leaves a little gift for the rangers under Scott's car that she reveals to Venjix later is....her hand O_O...before he plans to destroy her for failing again.  I have to admit, as absurd as the runaway hand infiltrating the rangers' base is...it surprisingly make for back to back sequences of utter hilarity as they discover the hand and try to destroy it.  Not to mention, Tenaya having way too much fun with it and General Shifter mentioning why she would give Flynn an apple for his shake. Ha!!! Luckily, this unforeseen event of insanity makes Dillon finally believe in his suit power and he uses the shield block a powerful blast when the hand gets its hands (sighhhh! :P) on one of rangers' mechanical equipment.  But when Tenaya gets all cocky, Dillon and Dr. K set her up to be suddenly blasted and destroyed.  I'm just happy watching all of this!!!

Even tho they destroyed the hand, Tenaya was still successful in managing in letting all the shields of the cities down so his latest Attackbot can lead in an attack against the city.  Of course, General Shifter wonders why Venjix doesn't just send a full scale attack with the drones...which leads to him hilariously getting blasted for being a smartass.  Venjix has very special sense of humor I see.  Anyway, after making his Attackbot grow with a download, soon hundreds of drones fly into the city; leaving the rangers severely outnumbered with even the High Octane Megazord.  Luckily, Dillon and Ziggy's zords are ready for operation as they summon their Wolf Cruiser and Tail Spinner aka Wolf and Shark race cars....I'm just glad I finally know what animal motif is for the Series Black suit! lol  Anyway, as Ziggy and Dillon attack the drones, the other three rangers fight and destroy the Attack System.  While Tenaya smugly avoids Venjix's wrath again for ultimately succeeding, Dr. K finally decides to reveal herself after Dillon apologizes for questioning the doctor's loyalty to the team....which turns out to be a teenaged girl to everyone's shock!!! All and all, "Handshake" was a comedic riot as well as full of some genuinely reasonable drama between one of the rangers and their mysterious mentor.  The reveal of Dr. K was also one hell of a cliffhanger with a stomach turning one liner at the end. :)

Final Morph: A+
