Season 17, Episode 4: Go for the Green

"Go for the Green"
Episode 4
Air Date: March 21st, 2009

Well, after 3 electrifying episodes that felt like phases of introducing this season's world, characters, mission and lone hero overkill in Dillon, we get a more episodic outing here but still progressing the season's amazing narrative as Ziggy is holding auditions for yet another potential new member of the rangers with Scott, Summer and Flynn as the judges.  Tho one wonders why they don't make one of Colonel Truman's soldiers the new ranger or why they are looking for a Green Ranger so soon after Dillon just became the Black Ranger???  Oh I'm sorry Dr. K, "Ranger Operator Series Black" as each of them are called with their respective color at the end. lol  Gotta say tho, maybe a mouth full but it definitely sounds more intimidating than say "Zeo Ranger  V Red".  No Tommy shade!!! :P I mean I understand they needed someone strong to operate the Black suit....even tho it's #5 and Green is #4 O_O...since they need someone to activate the stronger of the suits but I would have liked a lead into the search for the Green Ranger now and why its so important for them to do so.  One could very much say Venjix's forces are growing too strong like Dr. K freed in "Fade to Black", but considering how much a$$ Dillon kicked last episode, you'd think they'd be good until needing a 5th member for Green. Regardless, "Go for the Green" is incredibly entertaining as it focuses on Ziggy while finally introducing us proper to Venjix's latest general who he briefly debuted at the end of "Fade to Black".  But before that the main trio of rangers are getting fed up with Ziggy's embarrassing auditions so far before he panics and tries to find a proper candidate in line.  Unfortunately, a mob boss name Frezno Bob (I just.....ha!) and his goons there waiting for Ziggy as he apparently owes him 5 million dollars in an item or items he took from him. While Ziggy tries to play it off and talk his way out of trouble again, Frezno immediately has his goons take him to the back to swim with the fishes!!! O_o Meanwhile, Dr. K is debriefing Dillon on each of the rangers suit powers we saw last episode before telling him his special suit power gives him an impenetrable force field that will be able to withstand ANY attack for just 5 seconds.  Jesus, just five seconds??? Oh apparently, the suits power transcend time and space which give the suits the ability to harness such various powers.  Jesus, does the regular PR universe have a Dr. K??? Just saying, these man made powers are waaayyy more impressive than Lightspeed's...yes, "the signal is calling and shots have been fired!!!" :)

Anyway, a creepy whistle surrounds Ziggy and the mobsters before they can hurt him as a serious badass female jumps out of no where beats the hell out of the goons to save Ziggy.  Jesus, who is this chick??? Dillon's sibling or something!!?? O_O Holy! ;) Anyway, after some parting words from Fresno Bob for Ziggy that the multiple mobs all know he's back in time and to meet him at the stadium, Tenaya Sevenson (uhh huh!) introduces herself to Ziggy as he becomes charmingly goofy as usual.  Clearly, he think she'd be the perfect candidate for the Green Ranger, especially since she was in line....and just saved him from being killed with gravity defying moves. O_o  Of course, this is all a set up by Venjix but he has another plan as he sends another Attackbot or rather a Subterranean Plutonic Gopher Bot??? Seriously, with these long winded names for his monsters??? O_o Never thought I'd miss the similar days of monster puns like Hardichoke and Whirlene. O_o  Anyway, after scoring some impressive high points from the three rangers for being too perfect, Scott reluctantly asks Ziggy to bring the Series 4 morpher back to the auditorium but he makes it known he can be completely trusted, even as Dr. K wants to chastise him for handling such important technology she created.  Turns this couldn't be the worse time for Ziggy to have it as Tenaya 7 finally reveals herself as two soldiers realize she's a roobot.....yeah, how did Tenaya gets through Corinth's radar/defenses again??? O_o Anyway, Ziggy appropriately runs when he is attacked but Tenaya just catches up to him and proceeds to left his bike and force her into a villain monologue to get away from her! Ha! Meanwhile, Scott is furious over letting Ziggy get the morpher, reading shows Venjix's monster digging under the city.

As Ziggy contacts Dr. K about Tenaya being after the morpher, Dillon tells him he will meet up with him as soon as possible...before Tenaya does her whistling tune thing and scares the crap out of Ziggy again! After throwing some hanging laundry in her face, he realizes he can hit two birds with one stone by getting Tenaya to attack Fresno Bob and his goons while he makes his way off with the morpher.  It actually works at first as Tenaya thinks Fresno has the morpher and Dillon manages to arrive and pick up Ziggy.  Only Tenaya jumps on his car and forces Dillon to stop he engages in battle with her. And she proves to be more than a match for Chuck Norris Ranger as even morphed, Dillon is having a hard time fighting her.  When she gets her hands on the morpher, Ziggy immediately tries to take it from her and mistakenly morphs into Ranger Green!  This is just too priceless! The funniest fight scene and debut of a ranger yet! After Dillon recovers and blasts her, she informs them about the other Attackbot in the city before leaving.  In the forest, Dillon manages to track the monster underground as he and Ziggy use their individual weapons to force it to the surface.  When the three main rangers arrive, they are all shocked by someone in the Green Ranger suit but have head into the city to stop it.  After digging their way out of dirt, they meet up with Dillon and Ziggy who just combined their weapons to destroy it.  But of course, Venjix makes it grow; leaving the three to summon their High Octane Megazord and destroy the monster proper...while even maintaining a bridge full of car driving on it.  I love unconventional zord fights like this.  Anyway, the episode ends with Dr. K and the rangers being introduced to their new member by Dillon, smug and all as usual...as they are in utter disbelief and proceed to walk out the lab. Oh Ziggy, I'm sure you don't need a ranger suit to get dates.  All and All, "Go for the Green" is strong, solid fun and Ziggy's intro as the new Green Ranger is expected yet so unexpected.  You just knew he'd have a much bigger role moving forward but him as a ranger opens up so many unconventional story opportunities since he clearly doesn't have what it takes....physically anyway.  Also I love Dillon just immediately accepting Ziggy as a ranger and forcing him to join in the fight despite cowering so many times through multiple fights.  This two have been the character highlights and stars of the show so far as the main three rangers remain awesome but just your standard heroes we don't know much about.  Can't wait to watch their backstories unfold...;)
