Season 17, Episode 12: Blitz
"Blitz"
Episode 12
Air Date: May 16th, 2009
Well clearly after one of, if not, the darkest episode of the series, things are gonna lighten up a little as we get back to basics on this show right???? Oh the episode opens with Dillon having a truly frightening nightmare where he drops his morpher, goes into Doc K's lab full of ominous smoke and being forced to relive losing that person he's been looking for by being ripped away from her as Grinders capture him while she falls into a large hole in the ground. Then a Venjix's Bot comes out of nowhere calling him "Subject D-44" before Venjix orders his bot to remove his memories to Dillon's horror....before waking up all hot and sweaty. :) I mean...terrified and shocked! O_O Needlessly to say, grim, dark is still in full force!!! The next day, Doc K has been following weird signal readings moving all over the city that's been affecting the city's shields and defenses when Dillon arrives to join them as they head out to confront a new Attackbot. After Dillon brushes off Summer's concern about his sleeping, they head out as there is another signal heading through the sewers. I just the endless shot of gear shifting and pedal pushing like it was freakin' Fast and the Furious but whatever! The hell! The rangers soon arrive to fight off the Grinders and fight the Attackbot until they summon their RPM Enforcer to destroy it. But Venjix just makes it grow as the rangers enter the Zenith Megazord to combine weapons and fire all weapons at it to destroy it. Back at Venjix's lair, Tenaya is all I'm going to bed after they failed but Venjix has a plan as he will send another bot to continue to wear the rangers down so they are unable to stop his main bot causing the reading disturbances in the city.
The rangers are told of the other bot in the woods and immediately head there to fight it but clearly having trouble at first. They eventually are able to turn the tide of the fight and use the RPM Enforcer to blast the bot; destroying it. But Venjix sends yet another bot to make the rangers tired as the rangers realize they can't keep chasing and fighting monsters all over the city. Dillon and Ziggy eventually go to where the signal disturbance is while the other 3 go after the third bot on the loose. Finally, Ziggy and Dillon arrive to where the disturbance is as it is yet another Venjix bot firing at the city's doom to cause shield breaches within the city. Dillon heads up and begins fighting the bit but soon realizes it's the same bot from his dream that Venjix ordered to steal his memories. He even calls him Subject D-44 like his dream, causing Dillon wanting his memories back as the monster taunts him. As Ziggy arrives tho, Dillon is easily distracted by the monster as it attacks him with lighting strikes that make him fall off the building. Ziggy rushes in to morph and save him as he catches him and teleports them to the ground. As the bot gets away, the other three rangers manage in catch up and intercept the monster but before the three can blast it with their Road Blaster, Dillon stops them and tells him that the bot has his memories so they can't destroy it. Doc K is of course adamant about stopping that bot at all cost since it will destroy the city if they don't stop it; leading Scott to command Ziggy to destroy the bot despite Dillon's wishes. As Ziggy attacks, Dillon is pissed and wants to stop him but Dr. K decides to take his suit offline as he is suddenly in tremendous pain from his suit powering down. But Dillon fights it off, even sending the rangers flying nearby by resisting the effect on the suit.
I just don't like this turn of events, especially how things are too wrapped up when the dilemma at hand is soooo intense and morally heartbreaking. Considering Dillon was fighting so hard to get his memories back. I get the city aka humanity coming first, but you're telling me they couldn't find a more reasonable resolution to this. Dillon seems to accept destroying the bot too easily and going with Dr. K and the other rangers despite this being his ONLY led to who he is and what happened to the person he loved as well as lost. It's just wrapped up too tightly for me storywise and the fact Dillon brushes off his old memories for his new ones he made with the team is too on the nose for me that Power Rangers does sometimes. The power of new friendship is too powerful and too important for resolving the fact I continue to have hellish nightmares of failure and memory abuse! O_O But despite the bot being destroyed, the plot with Dillon thickens as when Dr. K examines him after the fight, she finds out that now the Venjix hardware inside him is growing exponentially as a virus and soon he will be completely machine to Summer and especially Dillon's utter disbelief. A nice turn of events at the end despite me not being a big fan of the episode. It was decent and enjoyable enough, but I wish the bot dilemma wasn't swept under the rug when such a major plot point about Dillon's terrifying origins could have been more fleshed out but I guess we'll wait for more of that later in the season I guess. :(
