Season 13, Episode 8: Sam, Part 2
"Sam, Part 2"
Episode 8
Air Episode: March 19th, 2005
Picking up right where we left our heroes getting owned something serious while little Sam watching in horror, the rest of team finally arrives morphed to assist Z and Jack. But even 5 rangers are no match for the Orange Head's immense strength while Bugglsworth leads Sam away. Z and Jack continue to fight Orange Head in hopes of getting to Sam before Bugglesworth takes him away but Sam just oddly teleports them away to a random cliff outside the city where Z and Jack continue their fight against Orange Head. Unfortunately, a change of location doesn't help at all and why would it??? Seriously, what the hell Sam!? O_O Jack soon calls on his SPD Patrol bike as he and Z retreat to head back to SPD. Meanwhile, Mora is basking in her new doll collection while Sam looks around apprehensively. Mora gets him to do more of transporting buildings and making people into dolls in exchange for turning one of the rangers into a doll in exchange for him never being lonely again. Awwww, I really like Sam and the looks on his face really do show genuine need for friendship while being thrown into all this. Sigh. :(
Meanwhile, the rangers head to the bridge of the academy...as Bridge is just casually playing with the dolls. Seriously??! O_0 Boom did the same thing last episode which makes me scratch my head relentlessly considering those are actual people and they shouldn't be used for playtime/Comic relief! -_- Anyway, as the rangers discuss what to do about finding the remaining missing people, Z can't help but defend Sam while the other rangers want to stop through judgement and force as she begins to tell the rangers of her rough childhood. She was continually bullied and made fun of my her classmates for her civilian powers that she made a duplicate of herself in class so she could run away. Seriously, that duplicating power would have come in handy for skipping detention says a generation full of high schoolers! lol Turns out, an alien was about to take young Z but was saved by a mysterious "Not Andros" in a cloak. After she ran away, the figure grabs her Z necklace as Z ends the story and the others wonder if she ever saw him again as well as knowing who he is. How convenient of all conveniences that Commander Krueger comes by just in time to reveal HE was the mysterious saver as he gives Z back her jewelry all this time. As the rangers bombard Kreuger with many obvious questions like Z asking him "Why is he coming forward now with this?" I know, he could have at least given it to her when she was first recruited but Krueger works in mysterious ways and has A LOT of secrets up his sleeve we'll come to find out. Hmmmmm.... Anyway, Krueger reveals that the rangers' places at S.P.D. really were NOT a coincidence after all as their parents worked for S.P.D. before they were born in 2001 (Hmmmmm, so S.P.D. existed right around when the Time Force was fighting Ransik and Wes' father was experimenting with the Quantum morpher at Bio Lab??? Hmmmmmm...) While we never get ANY real tangible evidence for this connection in the main PR timeline, we learn Kat is over 145 years old and helped the rangers' parents with the first experiments for S.P.D. Too bad their parents were dangerously exposed to a power contamination that mutated their DNA while building the first Delta Morphers. Hence, this is why the rangers were born with special abilities and Sam was one of the last children effected by the experiment.
With this new found knowledge, the rangers head to the city to spread out and find Sam as Kat quickly tells them if they don't turn the dolls back into humans in 24 hours, they'll be dolls. FOREVER!!! Dun, dun, dun!!! O_o As the rangers look for Sam, Z runs into him when makes himself appear out of no where. As Z once again tries to convince Sam to do the right thing with his powers, Mora's creepy looking doll as well as Bugglseworth show up to make Sam choose. Luckily, Z mentoring of Sam so far has paid off as he relents and joins her to do the right thing. Awwwwwww!!! :) Too bad after an impressive stunt heavy fight scene, Bugglseworth succeeds in turning Z into a doll and Sam runs away in horror. After my heart stopped, we learn that Z was just a duplicate in a hilarious scene with Grumm and Mora while the real Z finally appears to Sam so he can tell her where the other dolls are. Suddenly, Bugglesworth and a group of Krybots arrive and corner them. While Z is captured, she tells Sam to run and get somewhere safe. But Sam, already the crafty little deviant, uses his powers to steal Bugglesworth staff; saving Z and destroying its power. Z as well as her dupilcates take on the Krybots while the others soon arrive to morph and finish them off. While Jack takes on a Blue Head, the other rangers take on Orange Head and Bugglseworth again. After destroying the Blue Head and Orange Head, Bugglseworth summons his giant robot while the rangers call on their Delta Runners to form the Delta Megazord. After using the Judgement mode on her morpher to capture his robot, Z and the other rangers soon confront Bugglesworth to confine him as well before he escapes. The episode ends with all the dolls turning back into humans and Sam joining S.P.D. as the youngest cadet as it becomes his new home. Hmmmm, I wonder what will become of little Sam in the future.....;) All and All, a terrific follow-up and conclusion to Part 1. I love the growing mythology of S.P.D., exploring the rangers' past with their powers and purpose at S.P.D., Krueger having some secrets behind his mentorship and Z showing her compassion for a child that she teaches the value of true friendship and trust. As Power Rangers would! :P
