Season 17, Episode 23: And...Action!

"And...Action!"
Episode 23
Air Date: September 12th, 2009

Well, you know I'm all for behind the scenes footage, blooper reels and casual fourth wall breaking while our terrific cast stays in character while the crew around them is producing the series in the real world, but "And...Action!" still feels like it should have just been a neat extra on the Power Rangers RPM DVD or something!!! I mean I guess this is suppose to be a clever fourth wall break type of episode where the cast are still within character while being self aware that they are on a show working with a crew to make it.  It does have some moments of utter hilarity and charm to it.  The blooper reel segment was funny as hell capped off with a hilarious mishap on set with someone...uhhh....letting it rip! lol....and Ewwww!!! O_O

I honestly don't know what to say besides this is just a filler to save money and the funny this is the show will go on to have a regular clip show episode this season but that's only because one again of Eddie Guezlian supposedly going way over budget for the series and the producers having to let him go.  It's unfortunate as I would have loved to have gotten more story following the last episode as it ended on the cliffhanger with Tenaya having a mysterious origin hidden by Venjix and Killobyte but I guess Judd Lynn and the rest of the writers didn't have much to work with given the sudden added limitations with the show runner switch mid-season.  Even tho we know at this point where the story is predictably going regarding Tenaya and Dillon....I mean come on! lol It still would have been nice to have a episode with an actual plot and given that there are only 32 episodes, there's PLENTY of unused Sentai Footage from Go-Onger to chose from to make at least a decent filler.  O_O

I mean said footage is used here even to show the crew making a battle scene where the rangers and Dr. K go on to watch together....which could have been used to make a more in plot episode about the rangers stuck in a training simulation or something having more to do with advancing Dillon's arc with his virus...hell, have an episode where the virus traps him mentally in a terrifying scenario where he is one of Venjix's new generals, Dillon-44 alongside Tenaya 7, giving subtle hints of their story arcs sharing the same narrative before ripping it all away in the end by having Dr. K send the rangers into Dillon's mind to save him from being completely corrupted again.  Idk, just throwing out suggests....even tho it's 11 years later and I'm sure that idea would have caused budget issues on top of the ones already but still..... :P
