Season 8, Episode 10: Rising From Ashes
"Rising From Ashes"
Episode 10
Air Date: April 15th, 2000
Well, it's good to have an episode with some excitement built around it! And why not??? The introduction of a new Megazord always guarantees a great episode or in this season's condition, a MUCH better episode. The Super Train Megazord's debut as well as the megazord itself is quite impressive! The moment the Rail Rescue fly into the sky as the Lightspeed theme song plays in the background gives me chills to this day. Not to mention, the thing has got to be one of the most massive megazords in the show's history (as well as Sentai!!!) as it towers over two giant monsters; literally the skyscraper of megazords if there ever was one to this point!!! :)
Anyway, the plot of the episode focuses on Ms. Fairweather and two other scientists from Lightspeed going on a mission to a volcano (oh god, yet another episode set in a volcano??? That's two in a row!!! -_-) Anyway, but before Ms. Fairweather and her team leave, they are busy working on perfecting the new megazord....as well as Joel decides to make his move on Ms. Fairweather again.....sigh. You know this is getting old so far, especially Ms. Fairweather clearly having the same attraction toward him but always finding some way around like here, when she avoids him when he tries to make her take some time off to relax....sigh. Poor Joel.....I'm gonna be saying that...A LOT...for the rest of the season. Anyway, last episode ended with this teaser of this ominous, evil looking monster that Queen Bansheera planned to resurrect. Turns out the monster is Magmavore as be begins to come out of the ground....in the same volcano that Ms. Fairweather and her fellow teammates are studying! Just stay away from volcanoes in this town guys!!! Sheesh!!! As the volcano reaches critical, Ms. Fairweather loses contact with the Aqua Base, forcing Captain Mitchell to call on the rangers to stop its eruption. As Ms. Fairweather and her team try to escape, she helps them out of the cave but gets knocked unconscious and trapped there herself. As the rangers arrive to the volcano, Magmavore surfaces from the ground and a battle ensues. Suddenly, Queen Bansheera resurrects another monster, Trifire, from last episode as now the Lightspeed Megazord gets owned by both. When the Megazord falls into a crevice and shuts down because of loss of power, Captain Mitchell orders the rangers to evacuate it to save Ms. Fairweather.
Obviously, Joel leads the charge, eventually going on his own to save her while the other rangers morph and deal with some Batlings that intercept them. After Joel saves Ms. Fairweather, especially after some longing basking, Ms. Fairweather orders them to go back into their megazord while she puts the Super Train Megazord online. As the rangers fight their way back to the megazord and bring it back online, Trifire and Magmavore return to finish them off. As Ms Fairweather arrives at the Aqua Base, she begins to configure the Rail Rescues and sends them to the rangers. Captain Mitchell orders them to break down the megazord and head back to the Rail Rescues. After some badassery with the Super Train Megazord's introduction and arrival, it owns both monsters with turbine lasers and an assault of missiles. Seriously.....AWESOME!!! After the monsters are defeated, the volcano begins to erupt as Ms. Fairweather tells them the megazord also have freeze missiles!!! Cool indeed, Carter!!! :) The episode ends with the Aqua Base celebrating their victory and Ms. Fairweather even thanking Joel for saving her.......too bad when she told him to meet her for dinner, she forgot to mention the other rangers would be joining them! Seriously, poor Joel and Ms. Fairweather is a b!tch for that! -_- Overall, best episode this season thus far with an excellent megazord intro and some decent stakes.
Final Morph: B+
