Season 10, Episode 31: Taming of the Zords
"Taming of the Zords"
Episode 31
Air Date: September 28th, 2002
So, this episode was surprisingly impressive...to a degree. This is still the Kite/Animus arc, which means the episode has to open with Shayla singing while Kite watches from the Animarium....awww, I wish I could just drown him that sacred water. What!??? Two birds, one stone! ;) Anyway, so Kite is living on the Animarium now because the rangers...decided to adopt him??? So...you're telling me Alyssa has time to find out what happened to Cole's parents but the rangers can't find out who Kite's parents are, where he leaves, etc.??? I would understand if the rangers DID and found absolutely NOTHING, which would make them want to take care of Kite until they found some solid answers...but nope! Let's make this arc make no sense and force Kite down our throats more than Justin ever was!!! -_- I mean, I would even mind if there was something unique or interesting about Kite that made him so special that the freakin' Power Rangers need to look after him in particular but nope, he's just been rude, annoying and kicking people in the leg for no reason. I mean...what's up with that?? I mean not until the very end of this episode do the rangers finally find out the truth about Kite because he stops the Wild Zords from killing each other as well as the rangers. So.....huh???
Anyway, back to the good in this episode because the premise and actual power of the Org himself in this episode, Lion Tamer Org, was very entertaining and fun; actually creating a the most dangerous scenario for the rangers in a long while. We have a one off villain who can not only control the rangers but their zords almost instantly and that's a concept I wish that was further explored than Kite's origins but this is one of those seasons where you take what you can get. I love what initially treated as a joke with the Lion Tamer Org not being able to even control a cat became an intense battle royale featuring multiple formations of the Wild Force Megazord and Conga Megazord. It was just a fun ride; made even funnier by the genuinely funny comedic bits written for Jindrax and Toxica! From Toxica telling the rangers "isn't this the time where you guys call your Wild Zords" to their hilarious commentary throughout the entire fight between multiple megazords really made me chuckle during their scenes! LOL The bit with Toxica and the giant banana thrown by the Gorilla Wildzord was priceless! For once, it felt like the writers were having fun with the episode and wasn't taking it too seriously; which seriously helped making it more enjoyable.
But...alas, the resolution with Kite coming to save the day is so trite and contrived with Merrick remembering the same wind he felt 3,000 years ago which makes him realize who Kite truly is. ....You mean the same wind that blows in your face almost every episode, Merrick? -_- How can you differentiate between so many and who the HELL remembers what a particular gust of air felt like...especially 3,000 years ago!!!?? O_o See what I'm saying about Wild Force and how wildly forced (pun intended!) it can be??? But okay, Kite is outed and the rangers know that there is a clear connection between this boy and Animus. You'd think from here, with only two episodes left, there will be some serious payoff. ....hahahahaAHAHAHAHAHH!!! This was the peak of decency for this atrocious arc because....boy.....-_-!!!
